Tourist Warning: Be Careful at Thonkrueng Restaurant If You’re Not with a Thai Friend To all tourists reading this please stay alert, especially when dining alone. Always ask questions, and don’t assume you’ll get treated fairly just because a place is well-known.
Thonkrueng has been a respected name in Bangkok for over 40 years. Every Thai person around Thonglor knows it. But sadly, that reputation is being destroyed by the actions of just one staff member the manager, Nichapat (นิด).
A few days ago, I brought my foreign friend there and we ordered the signature river prawn dish. We received a 3.3-gram prawn and were charged 890 baht fair enough. But when my friend went back alone today, without any Thai person, the staff served him a much smaller prawn, clearly not the same size and still charged him the same price.
I called to clarify, and the manager lied straight to my face, claiming it was 3 grams. This kind of behavior is not just dishonest — it ruins Thailand’s image. We Thai people are known for our kindness and hospitality, especially toward tourists. It’s heartbreaking to see a few people damage that reputation for small personal gain.
So here’s my advice to all tourists: Always ask about the weight and size of seafood before you order. Check your bill carefully. And if something feels off — speak up.
Not every Thai person or restaurant is like this. But be cautious. You deserve to get what you pay for not what someone thinks they can get away with giving you.
As a Thai and a Buddhist, I believe deeply in karma and I speak from the heart. What happened to my foreign friend was real. I have no reason to fabricate this. The difference in prawn size between when I was there and when he returned alone was clear, and your manager's response only confirmed the lack of sincerity.
You may ask for “evidence,” but deep down, you already know the truth. And just so you know karma sees everything.
I truly hope the small money you gained was worth destroying 40 years of trust...
Read moreI had an incredible dinner at a Thai restaurant with my colleagues. They were super excited to introduce me to this place, and it turned out to be absolutely amazing! This wasn't just a bread and butter kind of place; it offered a wide range of dishes that represented different regions of Thailand.
We indulged in so many mouthwatering dishes that I couldn't even keep track of their names. Each plate brought a burst of unique flavors and spices, taking us on a culinary journey across Thailand. From fiery curries to fragrant stir-fries, we savored every bite until we could hardly eat any more.
What made the experience even better was the camaraderie and laughter shared among us. Exploring the diverse menu together and exchanging recommendations added an extra layer of enjoyment to the evening. We were like food adventurers, eagerly trying a little bit of everything.
To top it all off, we couldn't resist treating ourselves to some delectable Thai desserts. Whether it was the sweet and sticky mango sticky rice or the creamy coconut-based treats, the desserts provided a sweet conclusion to an unforgettable...
