Nasi Lemak is a dish that’s considered comfort food by many Singaporeans and Malaysians. The dish is very common in those countries but on the other hand it’s a dish that’s very hard to find in Bangkok. So when I saw the huge BabaThai poster on my way to lunch I had to do a double take! Couldn’t believe my eyes!! Nasi Lemak right in the heart of downtown sukhumvit!
I was happy to make the detour from my usual lunchtime hangout. But once I arrived I felt a bit strange ordering my meal from a machine. They have a computerized kiosk where diners can order and pay for the food before entering the restaurant. Once the meal is ready then your number is called.
For lunch I ordered a Nasi Lemak fried fish combo with extra egg and chicken wing. After dealing with digital menu I was really optimistic that the food would be any good. I was in for a serious surprise. Fish was fresh and crisp, chicken had tons of flavor and most importantly the rice was cooked in coconut milk and was very fragrant.
I guess I can compare my dining experience to that of going to a local food court in Singapore or Malaysia. It was low key, simple and delicious. And if I had any regrets about my experience at BabaThai it would be not ordering...
Read moreDo not order from them, its 3rd time I have ordered theor food via Grab app n order is cancelled then staff calls me to order direct from their website n claim order cancel by Grab driver whom I have tip 50baht (very unlikely) Bad business practises and inform to Grab to inbestigate their drivers too why only order from this restaurant has this issue when I order other nearby restaurant there is no issue of traffic jam. Asoke to Phrompong is just 1 BTS distance away and google map says 9mins! Will be reporting this to the press as shame for Singapore n Malaysia branding. I found out from my 3rd reorder driver its becoz they take more than 30mins to prepare orders and thus dont want to wait, well known amongst drivers they are slow in service but told him ok he can run other orders first. Please sort this out with Grab as not everyone wants to order from your website due Grab points. In fairness had a call fm Manager Som again to inform food ready but driver done other runs n some offer again if book via their website (again just stink that it seems they want undercut marketing reach of grab n redirect orders to...
Read moreIt was our first (and highly anticipated) time to try the highly-rated food of Babathai but, very unfortunately, this experience left an unusually bad feeling for us. My wife placed a delivery order through foodpanda at 9am (scheduled for a 10.45am delivery), which included a box of 5 Sardine curry puffs. We had the hokkien mee (authentic taste but only two prawns for the price equivalent of S$10 - expensive imho) and sambal kangkong for lunch. It was later when we took out the curry puffs to eat with tea that we realized that Babathai served us Potato curry puffs instead. My wife called Babathai to enquire how they could have sent us the wrong thing when they had so much time in advance to work with? She was flabbergasted when the staff seemed to just laugh it off as a first reaction. It was after I picked up the phone to complain that she offered to send us the correct sardine puffs but we declined because the damage had been done because there was no sense of responsibility displayed by the...
