We enjoyed our time and food there, we went twice! I recommend the place. Overall, the experience was good, but there are two stars less for this:
On our first time there, we got to the restaurant during rush hour (19:45), so we waited for 15 min to be seated, which wasn't a problem at all, but once inside we had to wait 50 min after ordering to be served. By the time we had our order, the restaurant was empty. I consider it important in restaurant management to know the work rhythm of the kitchen to advise the customer accordingly. In my case, I would have preferred to be told to come back after 1 hour, this way I could have decided if I wanted to go somewhere else or just wait by having a relaxing walk on the beach. On our second visit to the restaurant, we arrived earlier (before 18:50), the food took 30 min to be served after we ordered.
For the food and drinks, it was not satisfactory overall. The "noodle soup" was lacking a bit in flavour, the mango sticky rice was pretty... salty, the white wine was a sweet one mostly for desserts that didn't taste completely right and the gin & tonic wasn't great either. However, the mussaman chicken was delicious, the red curry chicken was excellent and the deep fried banana was pretty good. So, keeping in mind the food and drinks experience just told, I think in terms of quality/price the balance could be improved.
The staff were very nice at all times, kind and the service was professional and polite. It was a pleasure to meet them, so I hope this review is helpful and constructive.
Answer:
Thank you for the detailed answer, I appreciate the effort.
I wanted to point out that when the power cut happened, it was on a different night in between my visits. I was in a restaurant nearby, I took pictures of the fun experience in the terrace when I was having dinner that night.
About our food, I think you are right, the logical path would have been to mention what drinks or food where not "right", but as a customer, I try to avoid such an uncomfortable confrontation, I prioritize to enjoy the company and my time there, and also it was not only one plate or one drink, it was a few of them... In addition, if I take into consideration that 50 min "isn't too bad" for the serving, I prefer to avoid waiting again.
Thank you again,...

Read moreBest on Ko Lanta! Seven times in a row we went, really! And tonite again. We're staying at Layana which has a wonderful restaurant and service. Well, Malina's kitchen is 'on par' so no surprise we meet fellow guests here every evening. The price/value ratio is unbeatable. Simple as that. Great variety on the menu. TIP: Try the curry spring rolls special. Every dish we've eaten simply blew us away, and we've been travelling Thailand for twenty years. Spicy choices go from zero to hero. The service is awesome as well. Great setting too. Dan the host does everything to accommodate guests as fast as possible, finding solutions when times are busy - a born entertainer. And Malina tops Chef Remy from Ratatouille! Frankly, this is Thailand's kitchen at its best, or an excellent pizza just as well if you prefer. And if holidays are about meeting people and places, then by all means experience Malina's Kitchen and you won't regret it, my word! In the (-high season-) case you have to wait, it'll be the funniest wait you ever had, and more...
