Great Indian food and service. I consider myself a connoisseur of both “British Indian Restaurant” style and more authentic (often vegetarian) Indian cuisine to be found in the UK.
Nice spot, protected from the heat of the day, and plenty of thoughtfully placed fans to ensure maximum comfort. I ate at 4PM with outside temperature around 33C.
Ali Baba’s is right up there among the best I’ve eaten in the last 40 years. And the Service was friendly and professional, served by Indians with impeccable English.
I ordered Chicken Tawa (Chef’s Speciality), with a buttered chapati and a plain paratha.
Complimentary popadoms and dips came first and were delicious and much more authentic than those you’d expect to receive in a UK-based restaurant.
The breads and curry were incredible. By far the best chicken I’ve had in Thailand in last two weeks. Succulent chicken breast fell apart with the fork, was juicy and tasty, and fluffy white to the eye. The sauce was to die for. I ordered “medium spicy” when asked, and do me was just right (I’d probs my ask for spicy in uk).
As I paid the bill I was offered a free cup of coconut ice cream which I wouldn’t have ordered, but was the perfect way to complete an excellent meal.
90% of my meals in Thailand have been Thai, and this was chosen based on Google reviews in my area, and I wasn’t disappointed. Tbf probs the best meal I’ve had in Thailand to date, despite being impressed with many Thai restaurants in Railay, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Lanta and Ao Nang.
Great job Ali Baba! Highly...

Read moreSome of the best food we ever had. The boss took us in and seated us, he was very friendly. The waiter who served us was really kind and friendly also. The food took a little longer than expected to come out perhaps due to us being a group of 5 but when it did we were truly satisfied. Now… when it came to the bill, we didn’t have exact change so we gave more expecting our change to come back so we could tip them, quite generously might I add. However we were waiting for 10 minutes until a completely different waiter (possibly a manager as the boss who seated us wasn’t there anymore) asked us rudely what we wanted. To cut a long story short, he refused to give us our change as he insisted we gave him the exact amount of money despite the bill coming to an amount he would’ve needed to give us change for. We tried to explain nicely and then he came back with “our money” but had removed around 700 baht. Eventually we spoke to the waiter who served us and explained it all. Not long after, the other guy came back and gave us the exact change. We left a much lower tip as we were left truly disappointed after such a great night of food and excellent service from our...
