When I walked into Little Govindas cafe, I said, “baby, you (the café) could be in Southern California and a big hit!” What a fabulous fully vegan spot, with a green-house terrace roof dining area which is air conditioned. To boot there is the most sexy, seated-on-the-floor cushion yogi-style dining spot for the hungry hari Krishna in you!
Go, go, go Little Govindas ! Love it. “Gimme, gimme, gimme,” (sung ala ABBA with a twist in lyrics) my very vegan lunch.
Little Govindas is the new kid on the Ao Nong dining block. It has a café feel unlike its elder Govindas brother - a proper full dining restaurant just up the street.
The charming restaurant manager/ chef’s recommendation are: Vegetable pakora for starters. Paneer tikka (grilled cottage cheese) paneer malai tikka (cottage cheese with peppers and tomatoes), jafreezi (a spicey vegetable stew similar to a ratatouille), dahl tarka. For drinks I recommend the mango lassi (utterly delicious, fresh and refreshing), the Ao Nong sunset smoothie and the perfectly brewed masala chai which was an excellent way to end my spectacular vegan meal.
For dessert go for the muffins and the gulab jamuns, I was told.
Little Govindas meals have an easy going “save the planet” feel as does this cosy café restaurant overall. Fully prepared dishes are from produce sourced from a fresh farmer’s markets in the Ao Nong area by an Indian Myanmese chef. Non-diary soy or nut milk is used and it is a dining operation that prides itself on being fully vegan/vegetarian. This spot serves no alcohol. Alcohol is not allowed on the premises. Read moreWent there with my girlfriend tonight and we ordered chicken nuggets with fries, a falafel wrap, a chicken wrap and a smoothie.
We asked to swap the yogurt and cow milk for soy milk in the smoothie. The staff came back 5 minutes later to let us know their soy milk was past due so we asked if they could do almond milk, she went back in the kitchen, took the almond milk carton and sniffed it below the counter so we couldn't see and then came back to say it was also past due. At this point we just told her we'd pass on the smoothie and we waited for our food to arrive.
The nuggets and fries included 3 nuggets and they were as dry as sand. Clearly the worst nuggets i've had so far. Fries were literally tasting like McDonald's.
Falafel wrap didn't have hummus because they apparently ran out of that too. Tahini didn't taste like tahini, so we had mayonaise in it but honestly, it felt like yogurt that had gone bad rather than actual mayonaise. Horrible veggies to bread ratio, dried out reheated falafels, nice try.
My girlfriend had the chicken wrap which had barely 3 chicken pieces in it. Again, way too many veggies versus protein ratio and weird sticky tasting mayonaise.
All in all, quite a disaster.
We had lunch at the other location right down the street earlier on the same day and it was much better.

Read moreStay away, we had a really unpleasant experience here. Waiter was overly friendly in a creepy way, came to our table every 2 minutes, stared at us eating. In the end he asked us to leave a review and we said we will. I went to pay at the counter, and meanwhile the waiter basically forced my girlfriend to leave a good review right then and there, giving her instructions ("leave the review now in front of me" "take a photo of the decorations" "write something"), this made her really uncomfortable and she did it to not confront him, makes you wonder how many of these 5 star reviews are legit.
Other than that, without bias the food was really mediocre. We ordered a burger, a pizza, french fries with a hot dog and a couple of fruit shakes. The burger tasted like McDonald's (vegan so could be what you're after). Pizza was homemade but not in a good way, cheap cheese and not high quality ingredients, shouldn't be served at a restaurant. Fries and hot dog were just really dry. Shakes were ok, but you can get better fruit shakes on the street for half the price.
In summary, a very unpleasant experience, both with staff...
