We went here because of the reviews and articles. The hostess and servers were warm and friendly. I can verify that the food is good for that general area of Ao Nang, after trying a handful of other places in the area, although the bar had been set really really low by other nearby places.
We ordered a somtum Thai, stir fried morning glory, tom yum goong, shrimp fried rice, and laab chicken. I can recommend the tom yum goong as being the tastiest of what we ordered. It had all the components (kefir lime leaf, galangal, lemon grass, etc.). Do yourself a favor and get the nam khon version, which is the cloudy broth with coconut milk instead of the clear broth version, and get it one step more spicy than you think you could comfortably handle. The som tum was good, and the morning glory was fresh. While the laab and fried rice were not bland, even more flavor would help make the food stand out. (Difference between 4 and 5 stars.)
Service was warm and enthusiastic. They were eager to meet my requests for things they missed, and seemed shocked at each other for missing things. (For example, giving only one set of utensils for 2 people.)
As noted by others, they do give you a discount for posting a review. However, they do not hover over you to post a review in real time, and they do not force you to give them 5 stars. I am posting this review 1 day after eating there. So while I got the discount for the review, I am free to comment and rate as I wish. (A 10% discount or 100 baht off of my bill is not going to somehow add a star or two...
Read moreThai Me Up Pang Restaurant is located right off the Main Street. Itâs a casual eatery offering traditional Thai cuisine and the prices wonât make your wallet upset. The main story here is the fresh and delicious food. We ordered the Pad See Ew with shrimp, papaya salad, and a shrimp stirfry with cashews in a nice spicy sauce (we asked for medium level). The pad see ew had fresh flat rice noodles, Chinese broccoli, mushrooms, egg, and shrimp - deliciously wok fried and had a nice subtle smokey taste, sooooo good. The papaya salad had tomatoes, cucumbers, cabbage, peanuts, chopped string beans, papaya of course, and some chilis. The dressing was a delightful, citrusy , tangy, hot, and sweet that went well with the crunchy veggies. The cashew prawns was amazing. The prawns fresh, baby corn, and bell peppers in a sauce that had the right amount of kick to it - very tropical. The staff was friendly and efficient. There are so many other dishes on their menu I want to try - may have to come...
Read moreFood here was good! We had the green curry and mixed vegetables.
EDIT: This was originally a 5 star review. But we went back the next day, and didnât have a good experience.
The server took down our orders and even though they repeated everything we ordered back to us correctly, two of the items that were served were wrong. The first one we let go because it was just drinks so it was not a big deal. But when we asked about the second item that came wrongly, they responded unpleasantly that âthey do alreadyâ and did not bother apologising or correcting the wrong order. Not sure where the miscommunication was because everything they repeated back to us was correct, and we even pointed to the menu directly to avoid such a situation. This experience wiped away the good one we had the day before and we were quite...
