Ao Nang Villa Resort: Part 2 Five Years Later.||As we have stayed in this hotel before in december 2019, we opted to come here again with our daughter. |We had high expectations as our previous stay was overall good, as we have reviewed on Tripadvisor too. ||In our experience we have booked the Grand Superior, as it is a bit more spacious, and is on the best location of the hotel. |We have booked an queen size bed and an extra bed for our daughter.|But what was with high expectations ended in a huge crash and burn...||When we got to our room we saw we had a room with 2 single beds, and then one for our daughter. Not the biggest problem, as we placed the beds together and problem solved. |When we opened the fridge, the bottom was completely brown with something that has been spilled, and dried in. So I cleaned that as i couldn't stand the look of it.|In the bathroom, we had as always, 2 glasses to brush our teeth. One of the glasses still contained the old toothpaste of the guest that was before us. Absolutely not ok.|So i placed it in the sink, to get it changed the day after. And they just placed them back in the normal position next to the sink. |The sink couldn't be closed of, as the lock always returns in the normal position. |The water doesn't flow, as it only rises because the drain is more clogged than anything. ||The shower on the other hand is even worse. The drain was open when we arrived, but I closed that one up myself. |Temperature of the water is something else, even though you don't touch the position of the faucet, the temperature rises from artic to hell, back to normal and then up to "I'll burn your skin off". With a 2.5 year old toddler it isn't conventient to take a shower. And this is if you get a normal running shower head. The best thing you can do is use the handspray, here you get a normal running shower.|You get shower gel and shampoo, but the shower gel was empty after 3 days. Even with the bottle open, it just got closed by housekeeping without filling it up.|This should be an automatic refill, this is a 4 star hotel..||The airconditioning has a mind of its own. You have 3 speeds. Medium and hard are working normally. Slow speed, it's funny. The airco is making so much noise you'd think it has cold, because the sound of it is like chilling in the cold. You absolutely can't sleep like this, it's like a metal grinder devouring a gas tank. ||The matrasses are conveniently placed on a large wooden frame that sticks out about 10cm's. Perfectly placed to destroy people's shinbone. And they are probably made of reinforced concrete, as you lay on them, it's like braking your back. ||Charging your device is truly an adventure. Every single socket in this room is loose. So if you enter your charger...it simply falls out. I had to buy powertape to make sure my devices can charge. ||The lock of the terras sliding door is completely defective. If we want to lock it, we have to make sure to grab the handle, then pull the entire door towards the inside of the room, before we can slide the lock in. If we don't do this, the windows slides open 5cm's on its own, because you just can't close it.The furniture on the terras has lived it's best life. ||And then, the fire show. Just to be honest, we have no problem whatsoever with the fireshow in front of the hotel. It is amazing to see such talented guys get a podium to show their capabilities. THe problem with this is, the most expensive rooms of the hotel are close to the beach, and the fireshow is directly outside of the hotel.|But they make the music so loud, it is overwhelming. We had a check last night, because our daughter couldn't sleep again, of the sound levels.|With our AC on, the sliding door closed, the curtains closed, it was 76db on top level. This is the sound of city traffic inside your bedroom at 21.20 at night. ||The big pool is truly amazing. Lovely atmosphere and perfectly maintained. The staff is extremely friendly and helpfull. They really make sure that you feel like you're in Thailand.|For our daughter they were very kind. Always waving and entertaining her. She loved every second of it. |Location is perfect, close to the beach. |The lobby is beautiful, big nature inside, spacious, and easy accessable. ||All and all we have concluded that they just need to upgrade the hotel to these times standards. It is obvious that they have forgotted to maintain the hotel, and it seems all a bit aged to much.|Truly sad to see the complex go downhill so fast in 5 years. With a bit of goodwill and vision you have an exeptional hotel.||We won't go back fast, after this experience. We are a bit dissapointed that we got this room,...
Read moreWe booked three nights but checked out after one very disappointing evening.
On the positive side, the room was a good size and appears to have been renovated in the recent past. The resort grounds are nice and the location is right across the street from the beach.
Our problems were with the water in the room (room 4202). After check-in on a cold and rainy afternoon, I was looking forward to a hot shower. However, the shower water temperature kept swinging between almost scalding hot to completely cold. The bathroom sink also had a problem as only a tiny trickle of cold water came out while the hot water side came out strong and burning hot. We called the front desk, told them about the problem and asked if we could change rooms. They said they would send someone to check it out. After housekeeping came and verified the problem she said she'd have a technician come fix it. A little while later a man came to work on it and after 15 min he said he needs to go do something with the pump downstairs. It was now dinner time and we were hungry and didn't want to keep waiting in the room so we called the front desk and told them we are leaving the room but the technician can come back in if he needs to.
After dinner we get back and try the water again. The sink faucet now seemed fixed as the cold water had some pressure but the shower was exactly the same. Called the front desk and were told that the technician fixed it. I told them sorry but the problem remains so they sent him again and this time he spent 30 minutes taking apart the shower faucet and going in and out of the room. Finally he tells us he hopes it is better but he needs to have someone help him to fix it tomorrow. I checked the shower and it was indeed better. The temperature swing was less but the water pressure kept rising and falling. But it was acceptable. Then I noticed that about 1/3rd of the bathroom floor outside the shower was flooded with water and the faucets were dirty with grease. I called the front desk to tell them the situation. The gentleman simply kept saying I'm so sorry but did not offer to have housekeeping come to clean it up. I put the beach towels on the floor and the amount of water completely soaked two towels.
Around 6 am I went to the bathroom and when I turned on the sink faucet I found that there was cold water but barely a trickle of hot water. I thought that maybe they got an early start working on the problem so I went back to sleep. But at 9 am when I checked again the situation was the same—meaning no hot shower. So we went to the front desk, told them the problem (with video) and said we are checking out after breakfast so either fix the problem or let us use another room to shower before we leave. After breakfast (which was mediocre compared to other hotel breakfast buffets in Thailand) the front desk gave us a key for a nearby room (room 3208) as the problem was not fixed. I expressed my disappointment in the service here as I had never had a room issue resolved so poorly at the 20+ hotels I have stayed in over the past couple of years. I was offered nothing more than their apologies. As a final note, the room we were given for showering had the exact same issue as we originally faced with the fluctuating water temperature (from almost scalding to cold).
Looking back through the other reviews I see this same complaint in only a few reviews so either the problem is limited to the part of the hotel that I was in or other guests are not bothered by this. That would be a surprise though as it's annoying to need to step in and out off the shower water as the temperature becomes...
Read moreRecently stayed for 2 weeks as a base to tour locally, top floor pool view room, which had a lovely view. Room was old but very spacious, huge comfy bed,air con a bit haphazard but fixed quickly. At times the water ran yellow, and there were some awful sewage smells. Bottled water supplied daily, good size fridge and safe, we fitted iPads etc in, maybe to small for a laptop. Room cleaning was good but very late in the day and sometimes missed altogether. It was very quiet considering the location, we slept well.
We stayed B& B. Breakfast was ok, but the area itself was not particularly clean, floors etc and they were not very proactive in clearing away. The ladies cooking fresh eggs were very sweet. We had lunch a few times from the pool bar and it was very reasonable in cost and fresh. The drinks are overpriced one can of small beer was about 250 bht, and the front bar overlooking the sea again overpriced, which I felt should have had a discount for guests. We had our wedding anniversary valentines and they put on a special evening meal, unfortunately no one had told us and we saw no advertisement around the hotel, so we out locally which was a shame.
All of the staff we spoke to were absolutely lovely and could not have be more helpful. Especially the gentleman from the rear pool bar.
The outside areas the back pool is large and cool, but overall was not kept very clean, with old and broken sun loungers and never swept. Sewer smells now and again. Front pool was noisy from the passing people/ boats all day with curved sun loungers so we didn’t use it. The boats are so loud at certain times going out and back to dock in the evening. But the sunset is lovely.
You definitely need a hotel with a pool here, the temperatures were around 35. Bring extra sun lotion there is a pharmacy near but it’s expensive and some of the creams have skin whitening so I’m glad we brought our European type. I also got sickness and you can purchase some prescription medication there which was helpful. I don’t think this was the hotel, I’ve had the same thing in other countries where the water is not good, Egypt, Mexico etc.
For location it’s perfect, long tails are right outside, tour buses pick up from reception so this made it great for purpose. All holiday reps are in reception regularly. There is a 7-11 right outside and so many bars/restaurants. The surrounding areas to visit on tours are absolutely stunning. This was our first visit to Thailand .Ao nang itself is loud, very dirty and so much traffic, we wish we had split with another island but we got used to it after the initial shock of the traffic and smells wore off 😂.. made London, Oxford street look quiet !
The volume of rubbish made me feel sad though, and we took out a carrier bag to take ours home. The children sorting through it on the street at night to sort/sell was pretty heartbreaking.
I would recommend the hotel, it does need improvements, it’s not luxury but is a solid base on a B&B basis. There were lots of families, and the children were all enjoying the pool, the downstairs rooms lead out to the rear pool so that was helpful for those with babies or...
