Saddest plate of shawarma I've ever had. Our meal here was so disappointing. We ordered two plates of shawarma and received a rendition of the dish that might be served in a Turkish prison. It is a relatively simple dish so it was all the more baffling as to how a restaurant claiming to specialize in Mediterranean cuisine can bungle it this badly. First, the meat. It was dry, burnt, room temperature, and absolutely flavorless. We were eating a crispy, tough texture - nothing more. Second, the sides were okay as we had rice, lettuce, onions, and then... pickles? Not the Lebanese style of pickled carrots or beets. No, we are talking about standard green McDonald's burger pickles. It was just such an odd decision and had me wondering what the kitchen was thinking. Finally, our two plates came with three small bowls with a woeful spoonful of suspicious hummus to be shared between two large plates of shawarma some generic hot sauce, and an undiscernible gelatinous white sauce that presumably was garlic. I've never had so little hummus for one plate - let alone two but after tasting it. I didn't feel like I was missing much. How can shawarma be messed up this badly? It boggles the mind. Maybe we just ordered the wrong thing but then again this is a Med restaurant and shawarma is so fundamental to this type of cuisine that it needs to be given much more love than this kitchen was willing to give. Apart from the food, the atmosphere is nice but I really wish the restaurant invested more on what it serves and less on...
Read moreI was there around seven last night which I guess is prime time. I didn't get my food until well after eight. They were very, very slow. I didn't take a picture of the food because I was so hungry when it finally came I scarfed it down before to take a photo. I ordered lamb shish kebab and asked if they could give me a little hummus instead of rice. She said no, but she would give me salad instead of rice and hummus as the dip. Then she came back and said they were out of the lamb and what else did I want? So I ordered the lamb Kofta Was cheaper, but it was ground made to shish kebab. I thought the food was very mediocre. The salad was huge chunks of tomato which I do not eat and iceberg lettuce drenched in an Italian dressing to the point that I couldn't eat it I didn't get the hummus at all. Decor of the restaurant is nice, but it was so crowded and loud that it was difficult to enjoy There are two sets of steep stairs going upstairs. I might go back to just try a falafel sandwich for lunch, but I'm not sure I want to tackle those stairs again or have to wait forever for my food Fyi They charged a vat fee. Some places here do and i did not see it on my bill...
Read moreThe best surprise in Krabi? A shawarma from Sultan. We were just back from Railay Beach—sun-kissed, salty, and starving. You know that post-beach kind of hunger where you could eat a table? That. So we were just wandering around, looking for anything good, when we spotted this tiny place called Sultan.
No overthinking. We just walked in and ordered a chicken shawarma. And honestly? Game over.
Soft, warm pita, packed with perfectly spiced chicken, crunchy veggies, and a creamy sauce that pulled everything together like it was made just for us. Every bite was juicy, balanced, and kind of addictive. The kind of shawarma that makes you pause mid-bite and go, “Damn, this is good.”
No frills. No drama. Just genuinely delicious food when we needed it most. If you’re ever in Krabi, don’t sleep on Sultan. One of the best shawarmas we’ve...
