A wonderful and memorable experience here recently! It’s located up on a hill with a beautiful view of the Andaman Sea, and when the sun starts setting it felt like I was inside a screensaver! The Hilltop really lives up to the name of best sunset sea view restaurant.
Its open-air design, comfy seating, and loads of picturesque spots, The Hilltop gave off a semi laid-back vibe while still keeping things a bit fancy which worked so well for this setting. It was a spot I was excited to eat in which is a pretty rare feeling especially coming from an urban area like Bangkok
It felt right for me to order a bunch of things just so I can have a taste of their whole menu. The first dish I tried was an appetizer, The Hilltop Hor D’oeuvres. The dish came with various little bites like spring rolls, shrimp cakes, and dumplings which were all fresh and crispy and paired so well with the dipping sauces I just couldn’t stop myself!
After the appetizer came the seafood platter. This was a big dish that you could share with a bunch of people. It came with sea bass, squid, NZ mussels, crab, tiger prawn, and some garlic bread to eat it with. Everything was incredibly fresh and smoky from the grill, and with so much variety on one plate you couldn’t get flavor fatigue even if you tried. If you love seafood and are in a group, this is a must-order!
For the main dishes, I tried to taste a bit of everything. The stir fried Andaman lobster with salt and chili was first on the list. It was juicy, tender, had the perfect amount of spice, and a nice char from the grill which brought it to a whole new level. Out of the curries I decided to order the Southern Curry with crab meat and chaplu leaves. It was rich, creamy, and had that traditional southern Thai flavor to it which made it so delicious. I definitely recommend having it with some rice.
After the curry, I tried the Deep Fried Tiger Prawns with tamarind sauce and this was such a simple dish that it made it a bigger delight to eat. The crispy prawns were complemented so well by the sweet and tangy flavors of the tamarind sauce. The last main I tried was the Thai Pineapple Fried rice with chicken and it was an amazing blend of both sweet and savory flavors. Before coming to Thailand I had never had pineapple fried rice which made me skeptical about how good it was, but I’m glad I was able to experience it since it’s such a unique and extremely delicious flavor!
To finish the day off, I had the Mango Sticky Rice for dessert which is a must-have at any Thai restaurant I go to! The mango was sweet and fresh and was served with soft and chewy rice as well as coconut milk which tied the whole dish together.
Overall, this place is perfect for either a romantic night out, a special dinner with friends or even just a solo getaway to unwind and relax. The view is the main attraction, but the food certainly holds its own, especially if you’re into authentic southern Thai dishes. Reasonably priced dishes, unbeatable views and great service, I can’t recommend The Hilltop enough especially if you’re passing...
Read moreOne user left a comment saying food is factory style and I totally agree. I give this a 2 only because the view was amazing. Other than that, everything was substandard considering the price and over hyped. Would not recommend. In order of my experience:
1 - pick up service is bus. However: we asked them to pick us up at 5.30 originally, changed to 5, they didn't confirm the change and then picked us up at 5. When we weren't there "on time", they refused to come back for another half hour until we called them again... At which point they complained we weren't there the first time etc then came later only when there was another huge group they needed to pick up nearby.
2- the view was amazing and we made it in time for sunset (we almost missed it cus of #1 issue).
3- it's outdoor so be prepared for mosquitoes
4- the waiters tried to serve us dishes that were not ours MULTIPLE times. Another waiter interrupted our waiter as we were talking to him / giving him our order - rude.
5- they never took away our dishes as we finished them.... And we had SIX dishes in one table!
6- presentation was beautiful but everything is very over priced. For example: even low key local places give you fresh fruit juices - they used syrup, despite being 3x the price. For the price, you would expect the food to be fresh, but as another reviewer mentioned, it's factory food production. It's very evident that 80% if not all the food is precooked and reheated when we ordered. 6 dishes came out within a half hour, everything was overcooked and not hot.
7- no waiter asked if we were OK at all during our meal. They asked if we wanted our mains at the same time as the appetizers, we said no but they all came out at the same time anyway.
In summary, their pictures were 5 stars, their location is 5 star, they pretend to pass themselves off as 5 star.. But they're really 2-3 stars. Do not be fooled - other than the view, any local restaurant can do better at...
Read moreWe booked our stay at The Hilltop Ao Nang, Krabi via Airbnb, and despite a delayed flight that had us arriving around 7 PM, the experience turned out to be memorable and absolutely worth it.
It was raining heavily when we reached, and the staff at the reception were kind enough to safely keep our bags while we headed out for dinner. As a vegetarian, I did face a bit of a challenge finding pure veg food in Ao Nang. One instance was when we ordered vegetarian fried rice, but it was prepared using egg and fish oil. After a conversation with the kitchen, they understood and ensured our food was fully vegetarian going forward. That said, the food was delicious and fresh, and we appreciated the effort they made.
We had booked a villa stay for 2 nights for ₹19,177 (~8,300 Thai Baht) and received a 20% discount on our food bill as part of the villa package. The villa itself is perched high up on a lush green hill, and the property arranged for a jeep to transport us and our luggage up to our room. The villa is divided into four private sections, giving you a sense of privacy and space.
At check-in, the staff also handed us a mobile phone to connect directly with reception in case of any needs or concerns — a thoughtful touch that made communication easy throughout the stay.
Inside the villa, we were welcomed with a platter of fresh fruits, and although the night was filled with the sounds of jungle insects (a reminder that you’re surrounded by nature!), it was peaceful. Just be sure to keep your windows shut, as the area is rich with insect life.
But the real highlight? Waking up to a breathtaking panoramic view of Ao Nang beach — absolutely surreal. The entire hilltop is surrounded by greenery and offers a true escape from city life.
If you’re looking for a unique, peaceful, and scenic stay in Krabi, The Hilltop is an excellent choice. Just come prepared for nature — and you’ll love every moment...
