Mai Khao Local Seafood Restaurant — Restaurant in Mai Khao

Had a pre wedding BBQ buffet at Mai Khao Local Seafood. I went for a taster session a few days before and the owner, Alex, said that it was a local food restaurant. Not many tourists. And you can tell. It was a fantastic dish of grilled snapper. Alex is really good at English, well spoken, kind and really good at organising a party. We had 48 guests arrive to the nicest styled restaurant at Mai Khao, with it's own ponds and gazebos. They put up a tent for the enormous buffet, had a motorcycle roti stall, well stocked bar and great choice in food and music. I know you want to ask - No one got ill afterwards, everyone made it to the wedding. I let Alex run with everything and all we had to do is turn up. My only advice, if you are doing something similar, and I hope you are. I would advise your guests to not wear heels. A BBQ pre weeding dinner was great for the guests from all over the world to meet and greet for the first time and most people said it was their favourite night. My wife sang AC/DC karaoke, other guests joined in. Some guests played the drums and guitars. I told a fantastic joke that no-one got and I don't think the night could have gone any better.

We had a fantastic dining experience at this charming restaurant, and it’s definitely a must-visit for anyone in the area. The highlight of our meal was the Tamarind Prawns, which were simply excellent! The flavors were well-balanced, with the tamarind providing just the right amount of tanginess, complemented by a fantastic pairing of local condiments that elevated the dish even further.

We also tried the Grilled Squid, which was fresh, flavorful, and grilled to perfection—tender with a slight char that brought out its natural sweetness.

The restaurant is owned by Alex, who was incredibly warm and welcoming. His hospitality made a real difference to our experience, especially with the complimentary pickup and return service to our resort, which was a thoughtful touch.

The peaceful, rustic ambience added to the charm of the place, making for a relaxing and enjoyable meal. The good selection of music played in the background further enhanced the atmosphere, creating a perfect setting for a memorable evening.

Most authentic Thailand experience we had so far. Food was phenomenal, service was amazing and Alex the owner was amazing to work with. He gave us great food choices and what ever we ordered was able to fulfill the order. The restaurant is tucked away surrounded by nature and ponds.

Their white snapper, Lobster and tiger prawns were all fresh. They were able to transform the fresh seafood to authentic seafood Thai dishes.

Also the Chicken Masaman curry was amazing with their fried rice.
