Heartwarming Experience with the Dogs – But Room for Staff Sensitivity
As a dog lover, visiting Dog In Town Ari was something I looked forward to—and in many ways, the place didn’t disappoint. The environment was clean and inviting, and the dogs were clearly well cared for, well-trained, and very friendly. The unlimited time access and complimentary drink also made the visit feel relaxed and worthwhile.
However, I feel it's important to mention a moment that left me disheartened.
While I was seated on the floor enjoying time with the dogs, I noticed dog treats for sale and wasn’t sure of the process—whether we needed to approach the staff or they would assist us. I politely requested a bag of treats from a male staff member nearby. Unfortunately, instead of helping, he laughed and refused, which made me feel quite uncomfortable. Thankfully, a female staff member stepped in and kindly brought it over.
I’d also like to sincerely apologize if it was inappropriate to make a request while seated—but as a first-time guest, I wasn’t aware of the protocol. That said, I strongly believe that staff working in such multicultural spaces should uphold a respectful and inclusive attitude, regardless of skin color or background. It’s disappointing when behavior changes based on assumptions. I am Sri Lankan, and I come from a country where hospitality is a core value. I also work in the customer service industry, so I know firsthand how important it is to treat every guest with warmth and equality.
Dog In Town Ari is a beautiful place with great potential, but I hope they provide further training the staff to ensure every guest feels equally welcome, regardless...
Read moreHad to give 1 star but if I could give 0 stars I would. Went here without knowing the price and they said 350 baht ($16 nzd) which I thought was quite a lot then ordered the drink that’s included and wanted to buy food too but they said no food available only drinks which is weird since they weren’t closing for another 3 hours. Then when I saw how the staff were interacting with the dogs I was shocked and knew I wasted my money on a very unethical company. There was about 15 dogs, a few huskies, shibas, Samoyed, corgis, 1 French bull dog and 1 brown poodle. They were yelling and hitting them in front of customers with no shame and scooping/slapping the private parts of two of them and forcing them to take photos with customers by moving them around aggressively. Very uncomfortable experience will never go back. When they asked if I want a photo with them I said no. The dogs aren’t neutered you can tell they are used for breeding and two male dogs won’t get along due to high testosterone levels. I took photos and videos as proof of miss treatment but this review won’t let me add it for some reason. The dogs looked sad and not happy. I saw six of them looking at something then a staff member threw a shoe at them and said get away in Thai. The big fluffy brown dog was very skinny under all its fur I felt it’s spine and ribs it looks healthy but isn’t. When I read the reviews for all the other animal cafes in Bangkok they also had very bad reviews. A lot of Thai people don’t care about animals so don’t go to animal cafes/zoos/activities. They don’t care about their feelings only treat...
Read moreDo not go here if you love dogs. I was so excited to visit, but within 10 minutes I saw one of the staff slap a dog over the paw, and from there it only got worse. The same staff member was generally very aggressive with the dogs, pushing and shoving them around if they didn't immediately do what he wanted. The dogs seem stressed and uncomfortable. Not one of their tails were wagging. I can only imagine how they treat the dogs when there are no customers around. If I had seen how the dogs were treated before I paid, I would not have gone in there. I left without interacting with the dogs, because I could not justify being part of the cruelty I witnessed.
The conditions didn't seem great either, as the dogs seem to get moved from the inside to take pictures with guests, into the small fenced in area where they run around a bit, and then they get shoved back inside. I observed from the cafe opposite of the building where the pictures are taken. The dogs seem very hesitant to interact with the guests, and only really came up to them if they had treats. Most of the time they would just walk around restlessly. One of the samoyeds fur was also missing, almost like it had a skin condition. I witnessed one of the dogs try to bite a guest that was trying to pet it, which is obviously not a good sign.
At one point all of the dogs began barking at something, and moved around a lot inside. This prompted very aggressive pushing, shoving and slapping from the staff. One of the poodles was being held in a very tight restraint and then shoved on top of a guest to...
