Indian Hut in Hua Hin earns a moderate 2-star rating from me. As someone with a genuine appreciation for Indian cuisine and a good understanding of its regional nuances, I had fairly high expectations going in. The location is certainly convenient—just across from the Hilton—but the dining space leaves much to be desired. Though clean and brightly lit, the atmosphere is sterile, resembling a showroom more than a warm, inviting eatery. Blue chair covers and mismatched wall décor do little to create a sense of ambiance.
Upon arrival, we were served a starter plate with crispy papadum, tamarind sauce, hari chutney (a green mint-coriander dip), and pickled onions. While this was a nice gesture, the accompaniments felt rather perfunctory. The chutney lacked brightness and depth, and I would have welcomed a more thoughtfully curated chutney selection—perhaps mango or coconut—for contrast and texture. The pickled onions were visually appealing but added little excitement.
As for the main dishes, the butter chicken looked promising, with its creamy swirl and rich hue, but was ultimately flat and under-spiced, missing the layered complexity typical of the dish. The garlic chicken was somewhat better—aromatic and mildly satisfying—but again, not particularly memorable.
We also tried two rice dishes: the bright yellow rice and the jeera (cumin) rice. Both were well-cooked and fragrant, with long grains and a fluffy texture, though neither added much character on their own. They served more as functional sides than flavourful highlights. The naan was fresh and nicely charred, but portion-wise it was underwhelming, especially given its 70 THB price.
The raita, priced at 120 THB, was another disappointment. Although attractively garnished with coriander and red chili powder, it was far too salty and overly smooth—lacking the cooling crunch of cucumber or onion pieces that would typically balance its creaminess.
We also ordered two mango lassis which were ok.
Pricing is on the high side for Hua Hin. Our bill came to 1,000 THB after a 20% Eatigo discount (which had originally been confirmed at 50%, then changed because we were more than two eventhogh we just ordered two dishes). That kind of inconsistency doesn’t inspire confidence. With individual dishes like butter chicken at 280 THB and garlic chicken at 260 THB, one expects a more compelling culinary experience.
A chalkboard outside advertises a “special” of butter chicken, garlic naan, papadum, and Coke for 299 THB. It's a decent offer on paper, but the food didn’t deliver on that promise in terms of flavor or execution.
There are plenty of Indian restaurants in Hua Hin offering more authentic flavours, better ambiance, and greater value. Indian Hut may attract diners with its central location and polished surface, but for those looking for soulfully cooked Indian food in a welcoming setting, it falls short.
Edit: respons to the management after their reply
I appreciate the reply, but the defensive and accusatory tone is both unprofessional and unnecessary.
As someone with extensive experience of Indian cuisine, I gave an honest, detailed review—focused on food quality, ambiance, and value—not discounts. If you check my other reviews, including of S&S Indian Restaurant or Mukti Indian here in Hua Hin, you'll see I gladly give praise where it’s due. The fact that I didn’t do so here should be taken as genuine feedback, not "frustration" over pricing, as you wrongly suggest.
Your claim that I praised the food throughout the meal is inaccurate. I was polite to your staff, but that doesn’t mean the food met expectations. Not every diner wants to critique dishes mid-service; that’s what reviews are for.
Accusing me of "expecting charity" because I found the food bland or portions small says more about your approach to criticism than mine. Dismissing honest reviews just because they don’t align with your narrative undermines the credibility of all guest feedback.
If you're truly confident in your food and service, there's no need to discredit customers who...
Read moreExcellent experience at Indian Hut Restaurant. I travelled from The Marriott Sheraton Hua Hin to here because of the highly rated reviews. I found the service prompt, the servers very kind and very good at communicating in English.
I ordered the Mutton Sikh Kebab, butter Naan and a tall Singha beer. Food arrived hot and naan was so hot I couldn't pick it up for a few minutes. The kebabs were cooked in the tandoor, were very tasty but my personal preference is for more charring. But the flavour was awesome, no gamy taste at all. The naans were tasty, soft and hot.
My 2nd dish was Prawns Masala. I'm a creature of habit, and Bangkok has had so many Indian restaurants with good prawn masala, I had to give this place a try. I asked the server if the prawns were fresh, and she was very candid and said the prawns arrived fresh and then were frozen. I really appreciated the honesty, so I ordered Prawn Masala with another butter Naan.
The prawn masala came hot and smelled so good, I dug right in and forgot to take a picture! That's a good sign of good food. The prawn masala was not as good as other places in Bangkok but it was good enough to hit the mark for me. I enjoyed the dish especially enjoyed the strands of fresh ginger liberally used in the dish. With the hot butter Naan, I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
I'm certain I'll be pondering whether to come back here one more time during my short 3 night visit to Hua Hin.
I was completely satisfied with my experience. I hope you...
Read moreWow. Really fantastic Indian food.
We were looking for something different to eat in Hua Hin and we are glad we found the India Hut! We had Aloo Gobi, Vegetable Pakora, Chicken Biryani, and Chicken Methi and butter naan. Everything was absolutely delicious.
Our kids loved the Vegetable Pakora, it had a lot of flavor and obviously kids love deep fried food. The Aloo Gobi was savory and packed with flavor. The biryani was tangy with a very mild spice to it, full of all the layered flavors and with delicious curd on the side. The chicken methi was a truly standout dish with such a rich creaminess from the cashew sauce. It was wonderful. The naan was large and deliciously charred.
This was a really great restaurant experience and I would highly...
