The food was good but I had an incident with a rat in the restaurant so my low review is about the questionable hygiene of the restaurant, the service and the staffs response to an unfortunate incident rather than the food.
Eat Me had been on my list for months and the food did not disappoint. The Wagyu short ribs and grilled asparagus were amazing. Unfortunately they were sold out of the other things I would have loved to try: lemongrass chicken, oxtail and bone marrow.
I sat on the terrace and whilst drinking, i noticed something dripping from above me on the table. I thought it might be rain but I looked up and saw we’re covered, only to look closer and see that it was a RAT and it’s excrements were what was dropping on the table. I was shocked. The staff kindly (and obviously) came to move me to a new table but offered me the same half drink that was jeopardised by the rat droppings. I was shocked that I literally had to request a new one was made.
No one came over to apologise and I literally had to request to speak to the manager who said he would check out why it happened tomorrow but never returned with a gesture of any kind.
In any other restaurant of this calibre, the management team would have done a thorough checking in on the affected guest. Secondly, the entire situation made me second guess the hygiene of the restaurant and I struggled to enjoy my meal out of the shock of that incident (though it was cooked well)
For me, this kind of service is disappointing and can really bring down any persons experience, regardless of the quality of the food and no matter what city, we’re in, I will never get used to seeing a rat in any restaurant nor the expectation to just pretend that life goes on after seeing one in such a fine...
Read moreThis restaurant kept popping up on Google Maps and when we realized it was one of the top 50 in Asia, we knew we had to make time to try this. We were disappointed when we called for 9pm reservations in the garden patio since they were booked full on the patio. Luckily, we arrived 15 minutes early and there was a beautiful spot waiting for us. There was so much greenery upstairs! The staff was A+ being attentive to our needs and likes. We started off with the El Presidente and Cucumber & Honey Smash. Both were very delicious and presented well. The Heirloom Tomato Salad caught our attention with Olive Oil Ice Cream. Also highly recommended was the Spicy Wagyu Steak Tartare 'Laab' with Fried Quail Egg; and wow, that was incredible! For the main dishes, we shared the Australian Lamb Shank and the Hamachi Tuna Collar. While we were perusing the wine menu, we got a chance encounter with Proprietor Darren! What a nice surprise. He brought us samples of wine to help us figure out what we would like to have with our dishes. It was a nice touch. The lamb was crispy on the outside and beautifully medium rare on the outside. And the Hamachi Collar. Oh my goodness. Such great flavors! We ended the night with a delicious glass of Port and because it was the day after Chinese New Year, they gave us a free chocolate cupcake! And to top it all off, they invited us downstairs to the bar to have a shot with them and talk. If you get to meet the host, Polo, he is such a delight to talk to. Not only was the food very good, but the service was outstanding. I can't recommend this place highly enough. It's not pretentious whatsoever; just down to earth and focused on outstanding food...
Read moreWhen we had read that this restaurant was one of the best in Bangkok and Asia we were really looking forward to a one of a kind gastronomic experience. We were unfortunately in for a bit of a surprise. The complimentary bread that was served had a really hard crust. The white asparagus with caviar appetizer was underwhelming. The asparagus didn't cut with the provided knife - it would simply shred which we thought was strange. The service most certainly has room for improvement. The Wagyu beef was tough and had a notable aftertaste. We sent the beef back and had two separate people come and tell us that the chef thought the 'beef was perfect'. Are the customers not the best judge of quality? We were kind of taken aback by the stubbornness that 'we think our food is perfect'. Probably a need to train the staff on the merits of genuine customer service. However, because we were unhappy, through clenched teeth, they said we'll not charge you for it. It's important to add that we didn't touch the beef after the first bite. Though I understand that Google+ Reviews cannot be bought, we really felt that there was a disconnect between the high ratings and the level of service and food that we experienced. I'm not giving a one star because they didn't charge us...
