There is no doubt that the food is superb, but our experience was hideous. The worst customer service I've ever had, ever. If not for the actual quality of the food, and the authentic Japanese chef, then it would be a pointless business.
When we first walked in, they led us to the back, away from the ambience of the restaurant where the music couldn't reach, the room was cold and where a little girl sat doing her homework. We stood awkwardly; we weren't shown exactly where to sit. A waitress then proceeded to usher the unwilling girl to move so we could sit where she sat.
Confused, we asked to come back when we could sit in the actual restaurant. All of the waitresses didn't understand what we were asking, until the manager came and said we could come back in an hour.
When we came back, we were taken to the main part of the restaurant but not seated, again the waitress left us to dawdle. There were plates of salmon laid out on all the tables which confused us even more. Still standing around we finally sat ourselves and deduced that they lay out a sample of what I assume is 'fish of the day' ready on your table to taste, though I can't say for sure, because again, nothing was explained. A waitress then came and placed a fish-roe hand roll onto our table, and we said we didn't order it, but if the salmon on our table were free to eat - without any look in our direction, she just mumbled 'yeah, yeah' and walked off with the hand roll.
We were greeted very nicely by the manager and she took our order. My partner asked what she recommended to have the shishamo dish with, and she said rice or vegetables, so he ordered it with rice. She read back and showed our order to us from her tablet, and everything was correctly taken. It was clear things came as they were prepared. But the shishamo dish came without the rice, and in the end, had asked 4 times for a piece of lemon, and the rice ordered with the shishamo dish.
Our annoyance came from the fact that there seemed to be 5-10 waitresses walking up and down past our table, seemingly in some rush, and looking like they didn't have a clue what was going on. Keep in mind that there is a total of 6-7 tables in our room, and maybe 4 more by the entrance. When we asked the manager again that the rice still hadn't come, she shouted, exasperated, in the direction of the kitchen in Thai, then walked off, with no explanation or apology to us.
Whatever the reason may be, as an establishment providing a service, you have a responsibility to inform and take care of your paying customers. We explained our frustrations to the manager at the end of our meal, which ended quickly, and she apologised. She said she was doing her best, and I appreciate that, but it's apparent that your best is not good enough.
We even overheard a customer on the table behind us complain that their service was "too slow. Not good."
We spent just under 600TB on 4 dishes and were keen to try more, but I personally couldn't spend any more of my money in a place that cared more about the bare minimum - get the customer in and fling their order down whenever we can - rather than caring more about my experience and turning me into a loyal customer.
I sincerely hope you can talk to your team and have everyone improve their customer service, because everyone seems disjointed and unable to work together.
Nonetheless, thank you for the amazing, top-notch food chef. And good...
Read moreWas hesitant to try raw fish in Koh Samui. But I'm really glad I did. It was so good we came twice! The 150 baht special set of 5 nigiri was very, very fresh, as promised by the owner, a Japanese gentleman. Service was a bit slow both times and twice the order was not understood correctly. But we gotl ĺ what we wanted in the end. The fish was beautifully sliced and generous. The noodles were not as good as the fish, but, still good. The green tea ice cream was great, not too sweet. They were running a 15% discount on the total bill, but they add 7% tax and charge 2% for using a credit card, so you don't really get the full 15% off. Anyway. If you're craving sashimi and nigiri, this place delivers 100%. One night they had the vinegared mackerel and the eel. We told them we couldn't eat prawns, and, our request was duly listened to. Comparing the prices to outside Thailand, you cannot go wrong. Last thing, very...
Read moreThe food we ordered was unfortunately not fresh at all, out of the set, half the fish was smelling funny and had some patches of decoloration. This was fairly substantial so we notified the staff. Our waiter who for some reason didn't speak English nor Thai gave us a 10% discount. Although grateful we were hoping that they would stricken the dish from our bill or at least only charge us for half the dish since it wasn't good.
Nonetheless the somewhat arrogant "manager" came out swinging that her fish was fresh and it's our fault/ problem that we don't like her sushi/sashimi. In the end we paid full price with the 10% discount.
So overall my advice is avoid this place unless you want to eat sushi that isn't fresh or argue with an incompetent and arrogant...
