Kebab House Koh Tao — Restaurant in Surat Thani Province

Good concept and flavours but overall not up to our expectations unfortunately… the photos looked great and we were excited to try, but we were underwhelmed by 2 points:

1- the portion size for the falafel salad box we received was very small compared to your photos (see our photos for comparison)

2- the cooking of the fries and chicken donner was sloppy…. The fries had been refreshed several times so were very very greasy, and cold. The chicken was also cold and on the edge of being too crispy, perhaps you cut a batch from the donner when it reached very well done and served us last from this batch… I hope you didn’t refresh that in the fryer too..?

So, 1 star lost for each point, sorry…

It’s a shame because this is a really well thought out menu, the sauces are great, the flavour of the chicken marinade is good, the falafel - maybe the best we’ve had in SE Asia, the salad is fresh and varied, basically all the prep has been done well but the execution was pretty poor tonight, I feel bad as I know how hard it can be to deliver consistency… I’ll try this place one more time for sure, as the value would be good if the execution was as it should be and probably has been before…

Cut me some hot juicy chicken straight off donner, drop some fresh fries now and then, and don’t be stingy on the portion and you’ll get a 5 stars from me! I’ll change my review…

Ps… I would have given feedback in person, but we got takeaway so didn’t see or taste the food until home (2 min drive).. also, I’m aware the photos may look worse for the food traveling a bit, but I hope they are helpful none the less to illustrate my points… fair?

The only reason I didn’t give this place 5 stars is the portion size. I paid 200 baht (very pricey compared to all the other meals I’ve had on the island) for the box that includes fries, salad, and protein of your choice plus 2 sauces. I’m vegetarian so I opted for the falafel.

The food was DELICIOUS with the tzatziki and house sauces I chose. The only downside was that it only came with 3 falafels and a small portion of fries and salad so I was still hungry after finishing my meal. I don’t need to eat a lot to feel satisfied (i weigh 52kg) so that was a real bummer considering the price.

I decided to order the plant based nuggets to make sure I didn’t leave hungry. They were probably the best plant based nuggets I’ve ever had. The look and texture are just like the chicken nuggets I had when I was a child. I even had to ask the staff to confirm they were plant based nuggets and not chicken 😂 Usually vegan nuggets tend to fall apart with each bite, but these don’t. They probably aren’t healthy but if you’re eating at this place, you’re probably not looking for the cleanest meal anyway.

The place has AC which was a nice surprise and the staff...

I really like the place because, it is the only way to get some Turkish food here. But I don’t like the gentrification you do by solely calling it a German dish with German flavours because it takes away from the history of the Döner Kebab and the Turkish guestworkers, who endured so much. Give credits where credits is due. Otherwise the food itself is very tasteful, I liked it. 👍🏻 The Beef/Lamb meat has a very original and authentic taste, more authentic than most of the shops in Germany actually. The sizes are poor, in Germany it costs roughly the same, with a way bigger portion size. Grüße von nem...
