Hippo Burger Bistro — Restaurant in Surat Thani Province

I had high expectations but honestly the food was not great. I got the chicken burger plus bacon (chicken was really thin, had a weird mix of spices in the batter which did not taste good to me, it was kind of crispy but also really oily. Bacon was mostly just fat. Bun and lettuce are fine but the rest just was not nice). The sweet potato fries were really dry inside, they just snapped/crumbled, so had a bad texture and taste. The onion rings however were great, tasty and crispy, although I dabbed off the oil because they too were dripping. I'm sure if I had a different burger it would have been better, but of course I can only comment on my experience. The staff were fine but didn't want to be there (don't blame them). Note that they don't take credit card, charge 5% service charge, and even inside, the mosquitos are really aggressive - standard stuff on the island but good to know ahead of time. Overall, perhaps a different burger would be nicer, but I don't recommend the chicken burger or sweet potato fries if you're looking to fill a craving for western food. Also poor quality/value...

I was so excited to eat here! The menu looked amazing, good decorations infact I loved the whole aesthetic. Was considering ordering 2 burgers they sounded that good. When my food arrived it looked delicious - chips looked good and the burger looked insane. Unfortunately a couple bites in I realised something wasn’t quite right with the burger, then essentially bite by bite it just got worse and worse. Was so soggy, the bun was horrible it was way to thin and no crunch to it. The actual patty and bun combo just tasted like mush which is the best way to describe it. I couldn’t eat more then half of it. The only thing stopping this getting a one star is I loved the seasoning on the fries which again weren’t even that good. Just to clarify my partner felt the exact same about her food (isn’t me being a picky eater). I guess what made it even worse is it was very expensive which originally had me thinking it was guaranteed...

We found this place after walking in the heat for some time. It looked really cool from the street and had a decent number of fairly decent reviews.

In arrival the guy greeting us was friendly and welcoming, we sat in the front space on the right hand side under some trees.

The food was okay, we’ve certainly had worse! Pricing a little higher than elsewhere on the island or in Thailand, so we expected great things, as I say, it was okay.

Service was generally good throughout with one of the waiters particularly attentive, making up for one waitress who did her best not to make eye contact with anyone who needed her!

Our experience was sadly let down massively by the mosquitos, flies, and the ants which were particularly prevalent where we sat.

I suspect if we were here longer we would probably try this place again, but we would sit some way away...
