I know, I’m repeating myself—but what can I do? People only write reviews when the food is either amazing or awful. No one bothers to review an average meal. And here I am again, re-reviewing what is, in my opinion, the best restaurant—and the top chef—on Samui (and well beyond): Nick Hall.
At his Sexy Fish, by Sala Chaweng, you’ll taste truly unique and honest creations, born from Nick’s “realistic creativity”—a cuisine that’s a bold and beautiful blend of Pan-Asian inspirations and European indulgences. I can’t quite describe the dishes properly, but just take this as gospel: “Go to Sexy Fish on one of your first nights in Samui.” You’ll thank me—and you’ll want to go back.
And if you’re staying at Sala Chaweng, or you can’t dine on the beach because it’s too windy that night—well, let’s just say your options are limited wink.
It’s a rare mix of food that’s both incredibly healthy and delicious. We’re talking carefully crafted dishes made with real ingredients and zero BS (which sadly is all too common elsewhere).
Be there—and then come tell me what you think of the cured salmon, one of Nick’s signature minimalist masterpieces (if not the cured trout). And the seared tuna with bonito flakes (katsuo), miso, and mirin? Out of this world. Or the Yellowfin tuna tartare with stracciatella (yes, reduced fresh burrata), drizzled with the right extra virgin olive oil, aromatic basil, and a mix of nuts… That’s just three of the appetizers I ordered tonight—and the food just keeps coming.
And the bill? Always reasonable for the experience you’re getting.
Anyway—they’re serving desserts now and before my girlfriend launches her “attack” on mine, I need to stop writing.
Oh— before that, did I mention the lighting? Perfect. You can actually see what you’re eating. The music? Cool, never too loud. The crowd? People like us. And last but absolutely not least: the service—friendly, professional, and spot-on.
See you at Sexy Fish, for a few culinary sins that will take you straight to paradise.

Read moreWe were excited to visit this restaurant after checking out the menu online, but unfortunately, our experience didn’t match our expectations. When we arrived for a Valentine’s Day dinner, we found that the menu was completely different from what we had seen online—and significantly more expensive. We felt awkward leaving, so we decided to stay and just have a drink and an appetizer each.
The ambiance was great, and the service was good, but we couldn’t shake the feeling that we were being overcharged. They offered us water when we sat down, and we later found out they charged us $12 for it—an outrageous price, especially in Thailand. We ordered the tuna tartare, which was actually delicious, and the fish cakes, which were just okay but not particularly memorable.
While we appreciated the complimentary piece of bread and sushi, we still left feeling ripped off $75 for two glasses of wine and two appetizers is extremely high, even by Western standards. We also noticed another couple sit down, look at the menu, and immediately get up and leave—something we probably should have done too. The fact that the restaurant was fairly empty on Valentine’s Day should have been our first red flag.
If you’re expecting fair pricing for Thailand, be warned—this place charges as if it's an upscale restaurant in North America. Definitely not worth it for...

If you're looking for a dining experience that combines creativity, exceptional service, and mouth-watering dishes, look no further than Sexy Fish at the Sala Chaweng Hotel in Koh Samui. This new gem is quickly making a name for itself, and it's easy to see why.
From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by the incredibly friendly and professional staff. A special shoutout to Ning, who served us both nights and remembered us from our previous visit. Her warm recognition and attentive service truly made our dining experience memorable. Ning is undoubtedly a great asset to the restaurant.
The food at Sexy Fish is nothing short of spectacular. We started with the crab tostada and shrimp toast, both of which were amazing. The choo chee mussels were a delightful blend of flavors, and the pistachio not-Tiramisu was a unique and delicious twist on a classic dessert. I also loved the pavlova. Each night, we were treated to an amuse bouche and petit-fours, which added an extra touch of elegance to our meals.
Overall, Sexy Fish offers a dining experience that is both innovative and delightful. With its creative dishes and outstanding service, it's only a matter of time before this restaurant becomes one of the most sought-after spots in Koh Samui, so I'd recommend a...
