The Bamboo — Restaurant in Surat Thani Province

This is not a fancy restaurant it is a great place for traditional Thai and western food. It is a busy place with many returning customers. There is always a steady flow of customers. They serve beers and soft drinks and fabulous coffee. There are tables and sun beds on the beach area. The restaurant is completely built from Bamboo. The restaurant is home to two lovely dogs called Fatty & No Name, they are friendly and have a cute habit of sitting on the floor next to you until a new customer comes in and off they go. The food is ok. Pad Thai was missing 2 essential ingredients so a bit weird they screwed up such an easy dish given all the other positive comments here. King prawns tamarind was tasty. Beach was frankly dirty, plastic bottles right in front of the first row of tables. If it takes 5 mins to pick up the trash, than why not do it? They'd immediately attract more customers. Now the reason for this 1 star review is not the food or trash but incredibly rude staff. The guy who served us seemed to be either on drugs or have some sort of communicative disability. Honestly we were afraid as this place is right at the beach, the restaurant is big and not filled up with people. However, I read a nice review that this place is for "returning customers" and gave it a try and so happy we did that. Food is fresh, good atmostphere, price is not expensive regarding the location and the neighbor restaurants. We ordered morning glory stir fried, steamed fish and fresh oyster, banana smothie and cocktail. I would recommend those dishes to anyone but the cocktail.
