I made it a point to visit this Thai Izakaya after I saw it on IG and also in the Michelin list and know I need to try this out. How can I not visit when it meets my love for Japanese food like izakaya style and using local Thailand ingredients, best of both worlds.
Love how it is open kitchen style and I get to have a feast to my eyes too. We ordered a bunch of items, and do note, come items come in 2 pcs but skewers come in one, so you might want to make sure not over ordering it.
We started off with chicken skin with shiracha and some pickle chili & onion slices on it, I wish the chicken skin can have a bit more crunch to it but it was still good, pomelo & shrimp salad is so much better, the dressing was spicy and tangy and it goes so well with the fresh juicy pomelo chunks and the shrimp was succulent which provides such a nice kick to whet your appetite.
Next comes the shrimp with coconut pancake, that is one of my fav out of this meal, the dressing to the texture of the shrimp and the flavour of the coconut pancakes dances in my mouth when I took a bite of it, I enjoyed the coconut milk scent in every bite with the pulp of the pomelo, love it.
Grilled lettuce though a bit greasy goes really well with the soya sauce dressing. The shrimp glutinous rice cake which is a take of Japanese yaki onigiri 🍙 (grilled rice ball) was on point for me, the right amount of bite and chewiness and grilled with some char bits. When they serve it, the salad on top accidentally tumble down and the staff promptly took it back to ensure the presentation is not compromised, goodie points for that.
Skewers wise, the grilled pork with pattani salt was tender and flavorful, but our highlight was the grilled pork skewers with egg yolk. A version taken out of the book of how to make best tsukune skewer, perfectly grilled pork skewers dipped into the perfect & runny egg yolk, heaven.
Besides the shrimp rice cake, we also ordered the Tom yum fried rice, this though was a total let down unfortunately. Because it is open kitchen, you get to see how they cook it, so we got to see how glistening the wok was with the amount of oil that went into it, the rice does come with some wok hei because of that, they then put pre fried egg white omelette on top with yolk stored at perhaps an oven and drizzle some sauce, paired with cucumber cubes, pork lard, it was suppose to be the shimei (for Japanese last carb dish to round off the meal) but it ended up to a dish that we can only managed to finish a quarter of it. The pork lard was not as crunchy and the omelette was slightly cold, I wish they can come up with some zosui like congee dish one day, because the food is very flavorful and has a strong flavour, something with a wholesome mild flavour dish could be great to wash it down and round up the meal, but nevertheless I think it could be a one off thing because seeing other posts, people do enjoy this dish.
But what astonishing was the price for this meal. I had this with 1 beer and 1 Coke Zero and I literally paid SGD50 for it, this is absolutely unbeatable and I will highly recommend some of my favorite...

Read more4.5 rating the food generally was above average. Came on a Saturday and was lucky we got seat via walk-in as the place was continuously packed throughout the night. A couple of their items were sold out already.
Starters we ordered the aor-suan crab which was filled with crab meat and the balance of the sauce with crispy chips was perfect.
Next our favorite was the coconut pancakes with shrimp. The texture of the coconut pancakes was chewy like mochi but smoky from the grill, the slightly sweet and salty taste paired with the shrimp we ordered this twice!
Eggplant salad with crab the flavors were decent but personally too oily for my liking.
Charred bamboo you really get that smoky taste from the grill.
For skewers we ordered a few, personally I thought they tasted decent but it wasn’t as outstanding as the appetizers taste wise. Flavors were a bit flat without depth. For example the aunglo’s moo-ping the egg yolk didn’t elevated the flavors. The only one I would recommend trying is the grilled rice with prawn sauce, slightly crispy on the outside yet a chewy soft texture inside. The sauce gave it a meaty taste like pork floss.
For main we got the Grilled seer fish with cashew nuts relish, the taste of the fish and the cashew nuts paste was interesting giving it a nutty wholesome feel. However felt the choice of fish used could be better as it was more on the lean side so tasted a little dry.
Finally for dessert we had both the flan and the khanom krok brule, both was exceptional. The flan had a rich eggy taste as duck egg was used but the coconut and pumpkin seed balanced the richness out. For the Khanom Krok brûlé that was cooked to perfection. The crispy shell yet the center still gooey was so delicious, you won’t be able to find this...
