The Legendary Crispy Pork & BBQ Pork Rice at Talat Noi - Khao Moo Daeng Si Morakot (ข้าวหมูแดงสีมรกต)
Tucked away in the bustling alleyways of Talat Noi, this unassuming eatery has been a well-guarded secret among locals for over 70 years. With a reputation that precedes itself, the line of eager diners and delivery riders forming outside its green-painted shophouse is a testament to its unwavering popularity.
The Dish The signature order here is the BBQ Pork + Crispy Pork + Chinese Sausage served with Egg and Rice (65 THB)—a harmonious medley of textures and flavors that elevates this humble dish to legendary status. The crispy pork is a marvel—shatteringly crisp skin giving way to succulent layers of meat and fat, seasoned to perfection. The BBQ pork, though slightly on the dry side for some, carries a smoky, caramelized sweetness that complements the rich, house-made sauce drizzled generously over the rice. The Chinese sausage provides a delightful contrast with its aromatic, honeyed sweetness, while the soft-boiled egg adds a luscious creaminess, binding everything together.
The Experience Upon arriving at the restaurant, I also noted that there were many orders packed for takeaways. Thankfully, the service was fast, and I was able to have my food after a few minutes of wait.
The sauce was not overly sweet—it struck a good balance for me. Usually, other stalls might serve theirs with a very sweet red sauce, but here, the flavors were more nuanced. A final flourish of pickled chili and dark soy sauce cuts through the richness, adding a balanced acidity that keeps every bite enticing. The portions are generous, making it an exceptional value for money.
For those fortunate enough to arrive before the lunchtime rush, seating is available, though limited. The service is swift and efficient, designed to keep up with the never-ending stream of customers.
Verdict A staple of Bangkok’s culinary heritage, this eatery is a must-visit for those seeking an authentic and time-honored take on crispy pork and BBQ pork rice. The quality, affordability, and sheer nostalgia make it a dining experience that stays with you long after the last bite.

Read moreMy childhood restaurant, classic and consummate. I am happy to come back and eat here again. The roast pork and crispy pork belly remain a topnotch. Their roast pork is lean and has a well balanced flavor. The crispy pork belly is crunchy and aromatic. Both are nice sizes. The gravy is on the sweet side, but not to be bad. I added the fresh, long hot pepper in sweet soy sauce, and it was still scrumptious. I suggested that you order just roast pork and pork belly, just these two combinations. But feel free to explore more. In my personal opinion, the only place that can beat this place is located in Nakorn prathom, which is about 2 hours away and a 1000 bath for gas. So.. well, more benefits that this place have are, next door over to this place served excellent pork sate. And before you get to this place, you will see one of the best oysters omelet place( dang fried oyster). I usually visited all three when I came to this neighborhood. It is very challenging to do business in this neighborhood because of other exquisite restaurants around. In spite of that, this place must have done something right to stay in business for...
Read moreWe love the roast pork and the sauce! The location is easily reachable by GRAB. But ok the hygiene wise is not 100% but it’s safe for sure (we saw a lady chopping the charsiew at a corner and she took out a towel and wiped her sweat, and with the same hand, continued to chop the charsiew. Then another guy who came out from the back brought the sliced charsiew to the front for serving. His hand was pressing onto the top of the charsiew from dropping. So… if you are VERY icky about things like that, you may want to think twice. But we all ate the food and we are all OK!)
The roast pork was crunchy and the place was filled with locals! It’s amazing how you can enhance the taste with the free flow of green chilli and vinegar on the side. The egg was also very good. The yolk is done perfectly.
Overall a wonderful experience! After eating a good meal here, walk towards Talad Noi Art Street for...
