Perhaps the explainations were one-sided but now I understand why Thai-Chinese own a large part of wealth in Thailand.

Located on the 2nd floor of What Traimit (temple) at the entrance to Chinatown/Yaowarat, the ticket actually covered two museums - the Golden Buddha museum and the Chinatown Heritage museum. My friends and I paid extra for a guide who introduced us to the history of the temple, and how the Golden Buddha (made from real gold) was casted, lost during the Thai-Burmese war, and later rediscovered.
