VAREN — Restaurant in Wang Burapha Phirom Subdistrict

Varen cafe is located only a few mins walking distance from MRT Samyod station (exit no. 3), very near to the Old Siam Plaza. The place gets its rave review throughout the year 2020 for its outstanding interior (minimal style), the specialty /craft of the coffee brew and cafe hoppers (Instagram - photo shooters) up until present time.

Although the signature Volcano here is wonderful, and so as the cheese cake and scone (freshly baked), I have to minus the two stars for two main reasons. 1. The staff completely forgets our desserts after 20mins passed, which I'm really surprise on this to happened. 2. The seatings and tables seems uncomfortable (in my opinion). Good for photo shots but not as comfy in dining in and enjoying the time with your loved ones.

In addition, the cubic square area for baristas and staff members to tugged together seems strange to me. Practically, 2 baristas and 1 runner/severs should be sufficient within that tight space. But what I'am seeing is there are 6-7 staff (including the owner) on a day/time where only 3-4 customers only inside, all squashed up in the small square area.

I found myself unexpectedly wandering around Wang Burapha and realized I hadn't had my post-lunch coffee and was in need of a little air conditioning. I normally wouldn't go to a coffee place that looks like this; I usually prefer more "cozy neighborhood café" vibes where I can get a standard dark Italian espresso for $1. Basic? Sure, but I'm a creature of comfort. Anyway, the cashier was kind, and I did appreciate the modern, minimalist asthetic inside, as well as the comfortable seating. When the barista brought me my coffee, the smell of an acidic medium roast caused me to brace for disappointment. I took a sip, and I was pleasantly surprised! The espresso was full-bodied and complex. The acidity balanced out the bitterness and truly allowed the more subtle notes to shine. I applaud VAREN for taking me out of my comfort zone. Went to this place for second visit, great coffee beans, nice interior and variety of drinks and cakes but if you prefer to find hip place or cool customers please avoid this.

Seems not like cafe to relax or co-working space as FEW power sockets to charge your laptop and this place located in old street with well known stores as you can see loads of customers are 40 years old person as alumni meeting that chat with loud voices or families with infants which distracted while you working in this place.
