Karakoy Gulluoglu is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to indulge in delicious and authentic Turkish baklava. I recently visited their location in Karakoy and was blown away by the quality and variety of their baklava, both the traditional version and the unique "soguk baklava."
The traditional baklava at Karakoy Gulluoglu is made with thin layers of flaky pastry, stuffed with a sweet and nutty filling, and drenched in a sticky syrup. It's the perfect combination of crispy and gooey, and each bite is a delightful explosion of flavor. The baklava at Karakoy Gulluoglu is certainly some of the best I've ever tasted.
But what really sets Karakoy Gulluoglu apart is their "soguk baklava," a unique take on the traditional dessert that's served cold. This version is just as delicious as the traditional one, but with a refreshing twist. The layers of pastry remain crispy and light, and the filling is just as nutty and sweet, but the cold temperature makes it perfect for a hot summer day.
Aside from the exceptional baklava, Karakoy Gulluoglu also offers a great selection of souvenirs, including beautifully packaged boxes of their baklava. The staff is also friendly and accommodating, and the shop is clean and inviting. In addition, the provided toilets are clean and well-maintained, which is always a plus.
Overall, I highly recommend Karakoy Gulluoglu for anyone looking for exceptional baklava and a great souvenir to bring back home. The traditional and soguk baklava are both worth trying, and the friendly service and clean facilities make for a pleasant and...
Read moreNadir Gullu’s dessert shop in Karakoy was a special, standalone Gulluoglu defying the franchising and multi-branch expansion craze of his relatives. Nadir Gullu himself stood guard next to the entrance and personally greeted customers for decades. I always admired his desire to maintain full control over the quality of his products.
Ever since this particular Gulluoglu moved from the shoreline of Karakoy to this location farther back, the quality has gone downhill. I do not understand why because I know for a fact that they still make the desserts next door.
I ordered four different kinds of desserts, their baklava, their burma kadayif, their saray sarmasi, and their fistikli sarma, and everything tastes stale and chewy. Every single dessert is devoid of moisture and tastes as if I pulled these desserts out of a prepackaged Gulluoglu box at the airport. What the heck happened?
I am sick and tired of going to my old, reliable haunts in Istanbul, only to find every single one of them serving a subpar version of pretty traditional foods to tourists at exorbitant prices. Please have some pride in your craft. Either increase the prices even more in order to maintain the old ingredients and quality, or just put a sign outside that says “Tourists Only” so that the rest of us know not to go in and...
Read moreWhat an amazing experience for a Tuesday evening in Istanbul. We came in through the back door and into their back court. Place was huge, good lightning, it gave us a warm feeling, also and full of customers enjoying pastries and teas. As you go in the place, you will find different sections. Staff was helpful guiding us to which ones we needed: eat in, take away, Turkish delights, tea. So many options to choose from. The rotating screens will show you ingredients and pictures for every available baklava. Products sold by weight, easy. I chose the smallest box and picked 3 pieces and paid about 101tl.
Flavours were delicious, spiced, plenty of pistachio, subtle nutty notes, and most importantly, crunchy and tasty dough. They sell so much, there's no chance of products spending too much time on display.
Highly recommended to enjoy the back court. Plenty of staff cleaning after other guests have left.
Great energy among all staff appear to love what they are doing. It's even a spectacle watching them cut and portion their endless trays of delicious baklava and delicately organising them in gift take away boxes.
Highly recommended to enjoy the back court. Plenty of staff cleaning after other guests have left.
Come in and treat yourself with these...
