We visited the Zoi Fish Restaurant / Middoor combination in July of 2024. We've visited Çalis many times over the years, and hadn't been in before, however this year one of our party saw the sushi advertisement and persuaded us to try it, given that the Middoor version of the menu wasn't just fish and had other chicken and beef dishes.
It's a very nice restaurant, the setting with the grass and the pool behind it is very nice. It's worth noting that the front tables were for reservation only when we visited, so if you want a table closer to the sea, you will probably need to book.
Our table was quite close to the back, which is fair as we didn't book, and it was still quite a nice area. One person ordered two of the sushi items as a meal, which were groups of 6, fresh, well made sushi dishes. I personally didn't try any, but everyone who did said it was really good. Praise to this place has to be given for the sushi.
The problem was, this meal was brought out by the chef himself, 20 minutes before the next meal arrived, although we kind of understood this because it's a slightly different meal. If that was the only issue, they would have 5 stars, but our next meal, a chicken dish, came out 20 minutes after alone.
It took a further 30 minutes for the following meals, two of which were also chicken to arrive. I'm sure for most people the place has fine service, everyone looked happy, but for us, a 20 minute wait for the rest of the meals, for just one more to arrive and wait a further 30 for the rest, just sucked.
Nothing was taken off the bill, and we left. The food itself was actually very nice for the most part, and so were the waiters, but the progressive wait times...
Read moreWe had great expectations for this restaurant due to the reviews, unfortunately the expectations were not lived up to and the 4.9 stars does not reflect the service we received. On entry we were greeted very enthusiastically by the waiter, he then tried to seat us on a table that wasn’t on the front, with a sea view which was a main reason for wanting to go here to watch the sunset. We had a to ask a couple of times before he accepted our request for the table at the front. We then ordered our drinks which came in acceptable timing, we were then served bread, but with no butter or oils. We asked for this to be brought over but only received butter, a table behind us then had the same bread but was served with all the bits we were missing. One of the breads was fine but the other could’ve of been described as trying to eat a brick. There was then a long break between this and our mains, other tables meanwhile had had there meals and had left, we had no explanation why or anyone keep us up to date of where our food was. I would also say that this feels a very local restaurant and being tourists we did not feel very welcomed like other Turkish speakers/locals did. Such a shame because we had high expectations that were not lived up to. We would not be...
Read moreThis was my second dining-in experience at this seafood restaurant, and definitely won't be the last. From service to food, everything was excellent, not to forget the great location right on the seafront, where one could admire the sunset while watching passerby's strolling along the beach promenade.
The service was impeccable, the staff very attentive to our needs and quick to serve, the atmosphere calming and welcoming, and the cleanliness to be commended for.
Before the succulent main fish dish (levrek or seabass, a top choice in Turkey), we indulged in a rich meze comprising many local dishes: green olives salad, a mixed cheese and pesto appetizer, eggplant dip, sea weeds, cheese-stuffed mushrooms, calamari, marinated sardines, potato wedges and fries (to die for), some extra hot jalapeños stuffed with cheese, and a rocca (aruqula) salad topped with white cheese.
Hooray to a premium choice of...
