We were invited for an Iftar preview and super excited to try out the place since we had heard a lot of good things.
Located right behind Park Regis Hotel is Dhaba Lane with bright colors like red and yellow and the signature truck theme for the dhaba experience but of course in Dubai style which up-scaled the whole atmosphere. For the Asian crowd, a bonus point would be the Punjabi music playing in the background.
The restaurant is always packed and by the time we came on a Thursday night, it was a full-house too indicating the quality of food being served! There was enough seating to accommodate large groups but booking in advance might be a better option since the place has a queue of customers waiting for their turn to indulge.
The evening started off with amuse bouche serving the Naan Khatai Chaat to set our palates.
There were three options to select including Roohafza, Strawberry Mojito and Mango Tango. We went for the strawberry mojito and mango tango both of them were quite refreshing and complemented our meal.We felt there could have been more selection for the drinks.
The appetizers were split into three categories with the cold, non-veg and small plate. Cold: We tried the crispy pattie chaat which is a combination of potato filling with crispy bhel. Cannot go wrong with this one and this was just the beginning to an amazing dinner went ahead along the night.
Non-Veg: There were three options to choose from pepper pink fish, bihari boti, and ronakh seekh. The ronak seekh (mutton) kebab was our favorite because it was cooked well and the meat was juicy that we could have had a million pieces and still keep craving for more. Also, the bihari boti was perfectly cooked and went along with the mint chutney that was served in a mini pressure cooker, so extra points from us for the presentation.
Small Plate: We were served with the chef’s special Hare Moong Dal Ki Tikki, so this is not your regular batter fried base but instead made with daal. Kudos to Chef Negi for the creativity, a must try for the vegetarians.
In the mains the non-vegetarians could choose from Malwani Fish Curry, Chatpatta Gosht, and Dhaba Chicken Curry for the gravies, whilst for the vegetarians could pick Tawa Paneer, Dal Makhan Marke and Makkai Matar Khumb. Also, it is served along with a bread basket, and biryani or plain rice so that sorts out everything.
We loved the tawa paneer as it totally melts in your mouth and has a delicious surprise waiting to be revealed when you reach the center of it, that is the roasted cashews and walnuts which take the dish to the next level and the rich gravy of the palak, the classic combination have been beautifully weaved by the chef to bring out the best in terms of flavor and presentation.
Our favorite from the non-veg would be the Chatpatta Gosht, the flavors were well balanced and the meat was so tender. We paired them with breads and made for a delicious meal.
The daal was so rich, and well presented as well. It was so good that you could eat on its own just by scooping it on to your spoon.
Save the best for the last! Our expectations were on the roof after all we had, and guess what? We were not disappointed at all. Yes, fellow folks the food was that god plus a dessert being done right seems for a roadway to success for us.
Kunafa Chenna Malai keeping true to the Iftar season and blending the two classics from Arabic and Indian cuisine. Sounds too much? But no, this marriage was made in heaven! It had the right amount of sweetness and made our dinner experience truly satisfying.
Service: We had the opportunity to meet the Chef in person the gem of a person who is behind the scenes and creates magic on our tables. The staff was very efficient and on their feet making sure each patron was well taken care of.
Cash Outflow: The Iftar menu is priced at AED 59 plus VAT for a 10 course meal, we don’t think we have come across such an irresistible deal until now. It is definitely worth the buck.
We will definitely come back soon to enjoy more of Chef...
Read moreAfter fasting for those long hours, one just craves for something delicious, flavorsome and looks for great options to enjoy their iftar meal to the fullest.
We are so glad to bring one such place to your notice that is surely not just gonna satisfy your tastebuds but also your soul.Located perfectly in the streets of Karama this very lively restaurant that will give you the perfect feels of a punjabi dhaba is immediately going to grab your attention.
Dhaba lane has out-stood itself with its perfectly curated 10 course menu that not only focuses on those tantalizing flavors but also those theoretical presentations.
Firstly the very hospitable staff of the restaurant will welcome you with smiles and enquire about your preferences regarding Veg or Non Veg options. Then they will bring the very eye catch bite size pieces of nankhtai chaat as complimentary with all the smoke coming out of the plate.
Unlike other iftar options, Dhaba Lane not just serves ramadan drinks but also offers Mango Tango and Strawberry Mojito that are quite refreshing and cooling, and they come in these fancy looking glasses. With around 4-5 appetizers for the starters and each one better then the previous you are going to enjoy a culinary journey.
First being the Surkh Bihari Boti, extremely tender and succulent which will even fall apart into pieces with just a spoon is bound to please the most demanding of tastebuds. Little spicy but those little pieces of chicken with homemade spices are worth the try.
Then comes in the Ronak Seekh, minced meat kebab made with the finest ingredients. The only place where i actually loved seekh more then tandori boti. The seekh was so succulent and had the pure taste of meat and spices only. Drizzled with tangy tamarind chutney. Since we do not eat seafood, we do not give pink pepper fish a try, but we've heard that it was amongst everyone's favourite.
Chaats in iftar is always welcome right ? The sweet and tangy Crispy Pattie chaat was a delight. The soothing of the yoghurt and the crispy flavourful aloo tikki's are what you dream of. Also don't be mistaken that veg appetizers can't be equally inviting, just like the chaat the Harre Mong Dal Ki Tikki, surely won our hearts with its crsipy fried texture and the delectable dal fillings on the inside.
Time for some main course, even though by the end of the appetizers we were already full without even indulging in second rounds of those appetizers, but yet we were impatiently waiting to dig on those mains as it included creamy Palak Paneer, Dal Makhan Marke, Dhaba Chicken Curry and Chattpata gosht.
Dal makhan mar ke was definitely my favourite as it was buttery, bursted with intense flavors and alluring aromas. The Palak Paneer was creamy, lovely to look at and even better to eat. The chicken curry was good but amongst all those delicious options if we had to choose one of our least favorite then i guess it wud be the chicken curry, however, we are not saying that it wasn't excellent in flavor and consistency. We would label the Chatpatta Gosht as a perfect triumvirate of flavors.
All these curries, were well complimented with Roti basket of Butter Naan, Laccha Paratha, Plain Naan and of-course the Dum Rice.
Being sweettooths, desserts always plays a very important part of our meal, Dhaba Lane serves an old-fashioned favorite modernized to their special cooking technique, Kunafa Chenna Malai, with nets of kunafa. The dessert come with all dramatic presentation of smoke and is the perfect sweet ending as it is light and not very sweet. Also being the month of Ramadan, they serve Ramadan shots in the end with Rose flavor, Saffron flavor and Faloda flavor.
Dhaba Lane is the kinda restaurant that defines fine dining yet being...
Read moreI’ve read so many good reviews about Dhaba Lane from the tasty food to the restaurant decor. I even watched some video blogs on YouTube! When my family and I arrived we were excited and the decor looked great. I had my 1 year old son and 3 year old daughter with me and I asked for a high chair. After 5 mins I looked over and noticed the guy was still sitting in his TaTa office and I went back to him with my son in my hands and asked if I was supposed to take the chair myself after which he said he will bring it to me. He still didn’t hurry and we ended up waiting a further 2 mins. Anyway they served us papadoms with 2 chutneys but no onion salad - I’m used to having onion salad at most restaurants but it may be different in Dubai. The waiter came over to take our order and the starters arrived about 10mins later. The taste was amazing and the portion was just right. We ordered the chaat and tandoor chicken. Again regarding the tandoori chicken there was no complimentary salad served with it - I find this strange. For our main course we ordered the dhaba chicken curry and Punjabi kudhi. We were still eating our starters and the main course arrived and the waiter still served it to us. I felt he should have let us finish our starters then cleared the table for the main course but we had to make space for him whilst we ate our food. I learnt I could do two things at once and that’s a talent any man would be proud to claim. What was worrying was he had a tray full of hot food hovering over the head of our 1 year old boy if he lost his balance he would’ve scolded him. Again food was 10/10. When we finished our main course I called the waiter over to clear our table but instead he brought over the bill! I told him I wanted to order some ice cream and then he said we don’t have any ice cream in stock! So I ended up paying for the bill and left with my family. I have given this restaurant only 1 star because it lacks just the basic serving skill that any restaurant should have. You get better service from McDonald’s. It’s a shame I really wanted to give it more stars because the food is incredible but when service is poor the taste is bitter. The waiters should learn how to smile and greet their customers. Even these basic skills can seriously increase the positive customer experience at Dhaba Lane. I won’t be in a hurry back here...
