Gypsy Chinese Karama — Restaurant in Dubai

We ventured into the restaurant hub of Al Karama and headed straight to Gypsy Chinese to satiate some of our Chinese food cravings.

The restaurant has an imperial china theme with some lovely red furnishings which is a color of good luck in china. It also has a couple of on-theme ornaments and figurines adorning the walls. This helps set the whole Chinese inspired vibe while one enjoys some steaming hot Chinese food. They have cushioned booths as well as the usual dining tables. They also have large seating areas for bigger groups.

The menu has a nice little spice rating next to every dish which is helpful when you are not expecting something too spicy. The restaurant does get a little busy but despite that the ambiance is comfortable and relaxed.

Every table is served with a complimentary side of Kimchi which we loved because it was fresh and delicious! And they even provided some unique options for dipping sauces to pair our food with.

Baby Corn Spring Onion Hot Chilly [AED 32]: Battered fried crispy corn served with freshly diced onions and chilli. It was yummy, light and a delight to munch on.

Steamed Wontons [AED 31]: We were a little surprised with the presentation for this one. The steamed dumplings were served in a thick broth of delicious and creamy mushroom sauce with some notes of garlic. No complains about this. It’s delicious!

Crispy Chilly Dry Red Chilli [AED 39]: The chicken was cooked and seasoned well. The spice game was strong which we really loved but the only let down would be the oil/grease content which we felt was a little too much.

Prawn Pepper Chilly [AED 56]: These were large prawns that are battered fried and well-seasoned with pepper. It was cooked to perfection and despite being fried, it felt really light which makes for a perfect starter.

Chicken Ming Fried Rice [AED 36]: With this one you get a good mix of veggies and chicken along with some flavorful rice. This item leans a little towards the spicy side but all in all delicious and definitely recommend trying this out.

Chicken Chilly Coriander Rice [AED 34]: Full of flavor and extremely aromatic. Again, the rice was cooked perfectly and while maintaining its low spice level it does give you a slight kick of spice after every bite which we love too. It complimented our gravy item well.

Chicken Burnt Chilly Gravy [AED 40]: A warm bowl of delicious diced pieces of chicken cooked in a savory coat of burnt chilly sauce. The portion size was just right and we’re glad there weren’t too many veggies added in. This one gets an A+ in our books, the flavors were spot on and the dish felt wholesome.

Chocolate Mud Cake [AED 32]: We are soo coming back for this one! Best dessert we’ve had in a long time. The cake was so rich and moist, and the gooey chocolate center is indescribable! It was just amazing. Highly recommend trying this.

Caramel Custard [AED 19]: We were a little disappointed with this one. Although it tasted delicious, we were expecting some sort of creativity in the flavor or the presentation which we felt was missing.

Service: The restaurant was a little busy when last dined here due to which we’re assuming is the reason for a slight delay in service. Overall the server assigned to us was attentive and quite knowledge about the menu and suggestions to be made.

Cash Outflow: The prices vary which being reasonable for some items and slightly pricey with some other items, but they are on Zomato Gold so don’t miss out on that benefit.

Circling Back: We loved the food served here. Certainly, will be coming back with more...

Been a fan of this place for quite some time now. Ideally located inside Grand Excelsior Hotel, Mankhool, Dubai. Parking is not an issue as they have ample underground parking.

It is a Desi Chinese restaurant and one can expect flavors come to life here.

Ambience is classic Chinese set up with ample spacious seating for guests of all ages.

Prices on the menu are pretty affordable, keeping in mind that it is located in a 3 star hotel.

We had the following for lunch - Chicken Manchow Soup / Shanghai Fish / Lamb in Burnt Chilli Sauce / Lobster Fried Rice / Vegetable Sizzling Noodles / Chocolate Brownie Sizzler / Lychee with Ice Cream / Chinese Tea with Honey / Date Pancake, etc.

Chicken Manchow Soup - 4/5 - It had a nice flavor to it. Spices were cooked well.But i expected it to be a bit more gingery, which would help soothe one's cold :) Quantity served was good enough

Shanghai Fish - 5/5 - Now this is something that one should try if they visit here. It was cooked to perfection. Fish was fresh and soft. The crust was crispy perfect.

Lamb in Burnt Chilli Sauce - 5/5 - Another recommended dish at this place would be this. The quantity was perfect and the lamb was tender and fresh. The curry had a zing to it. One could just sip onto it without any side dish. Had a perfect combination of pepper and onions to it. YUMMY!!!!

Lobster Fried Rice - 5/5 - This is one of the prime reasons why I visit this brand is. Lobster quantity used in this is handsomely put. Rice quantity is amazing and good for 2. Rice is cooked to perfection and is a DEFINITE RECOMMEND

Vegetable Sizzling Noodles - 4/5 - I am usually not a fan of Veg, and especially when it is in Chinese. But this sure is amazing. Served as sizzling noodles, it sure has a very rich and different flavor to it.

Chocolate Brownie Sizzler -  4/5 - This dish is sure a delight for any Instagrammer and also a treat for a foodie. The brownie used is soft and moist. The chocolate sauce / syrup poured on the sizzling plate is truly a treat to the eyes as well.

Lychee with Ice Cream - 4/5 - Unlike other places where they are stingy with serving lychees, this place is different. This has lychees bursting out of the plate topped with vanilla ice cream. Only if i could replace the vanilla ice cream with Chocolate ice cream. Hehehe :)

Chinese Tea with Honey -  5/5 - This is another item from the menu that one should try along with honey. It is definitely worth it.

Date Pancake - 4/5 - This is another item which has a lot of dates put into it which brings a lot of flavor to the dessert.

A big shout out to Yvan ( our host for the afternoon) who ensured that everything was alright and served on time.

Indo Chinese cuisine is a comfort food that never fails to spruce up a dull day and you will find the best dishes at Gypsy Chinese restaurant in Karama.Located near Burjuman with Large seating space this place serves Indo Chinese fusion cuisine.Red & white interiors giving you the fusion feels. The Food We had- Hot & Sour Chicken Soup : Was not that great but good. Crispy Corn Pepper Chilly : You can never go Wrong with corn and this crispy corn kernels is a perfect snack or starter. Paneer Twin Pepper : This simple Spicy and flavourful dish Of paneer starter with pepper flavoured is to be missed. Dynamite Chicken : The extremely dynamite sauce with the chicken is a mind blowing combination. Chicken with burnt chilly dry : its the first time I am trying such a combination dish, as I am not a big fan of Barbeque Sauce but this was good. Pan Grilled Fish- This was a hit, super soft fish with the coating was just the thing! Prawns Pepper Salt : was a batter coated prawns which was delicious. Chicken Chilli Corainder Rice: I love corainder with anything and everything and personally i loved this fusion of fried rice and corainder. Chicken Sizzling Noodles : Never settle for the average, just fire it up with this sizzling amazingness. Chicken Hot Garlic: One can never miss this when at a chinese restaurant and this is living upto the mark. Chocolate Brownie Sizzler : Gooey , rich and Moist sinfully indulgent is the chocolate brownie topped with a mandatory scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream. One of the best Sizzler brownie I had in Town. Staff were friendly, not much crowded as I went late afternoon, Peaceful ambience and staff Mr. Tosif was attentive and Friendly. I love Desi Chinese and I am going back here atleast...
