One of my favorite places to visit in Dubai on the weekends, whether alone or with friends, is the High So Club. It’s my go-to spot for delicious food and great music. I have visited many clubs featuring live bands, but none compare to Merlina & Mission Band. They entertain a diverse crowd, seamlessly playing everything from the latest hip hop and classic rock to classy retro tunes. Remarkably, they can also sing in various languages, including Russian, Spanish, Italian, Arabic and Portuguese, which is a rarity among bands and adds a unique flair to their performances. They even include popular Hindi songs and delightful Lankan Baila, which truly resonates with my roots.

What sets them apart is the personal touch they offer; during breaks, band members take the time to connect with visitors, showcasing their friendly nature. Without a doubt, they are among the best in Dubai. The bar staff, including the manager, are exceptionally courteous and welcoming, creating an atmosphere where you can relax, chill, and enjoy fantastic music. Highso Club – A perfect venue to groove to a foot-tapping live band - ‘Merlina and Mission'. The music range transports you from the era of the septuagenarian, through the octogenarian, to the nonagenarian. From genuine Rock 'n' Roll to soft rock and love songs.

Mel’s octave is astonishing, with every soulful note, and her crackling voice touches the chord of your heart. Equally impressive is Joseph (the guitarist), reminding me of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”.

You should request “Sweet Child O’ Mine” and watch the band sing along; Joseph strums the guitar so beautifully that I go weak at the knees. Indeed, every song they perform feels truly celestial and divine.

Then comes “Shan” - the drummer, who also magically sings to deliver perfect Spanish renditions of “Gypsy Kings” that make you want to try your luck with salsa or bachata.

I always forget about my life for a while. When they are live on stage, I am in a complete abyss.
