Living in DHC we decided to have a walk to try some new restaurants close to home and ended up sitting in Karaz. We’re welcomed by an apparently nice person which has asked if it was our first time here claiming that once we’ll try it we’ll be coming everyday. He described all the dishes we ordered as “freshly instant made” saying that for that reason, it will take some time. That statement made us smile since one of the dishes was the lentil soup which clearly couldn’t be prepared at the moment. We waited for that soup 20+ minutes and had to push them to bring it quicker. The best part of it was that it was served cold. All this waiting time and they weren’t even able to properly warm it. Same story for the Musakhan Rolls. Took other 10 minutes after the soup and it was cold. The exact process of the cooking was - take it off from the freezer - fry it - serve it. The chicken inside was still fridge-cold. We asked to the waiter which explained us at the beginning that “it’s cooked in the oven and also fresh made”, how is it possible. After an apologize they brought a new one just more fried but still cold inside. Let me say that the disappointment was keeping growing and I didn’t think it was even possible. The shawarma awas again almost warm and again we heard all the story about the “it takes time because of it’s slowly cooked on the charcoal, around 30 minutes”. You could clearly see the water going down from the shawarma. The meat in the mixed grill was very hard and not good at all. They haven’t even brought the bread - which we had to ask by ourselves even if it was supposed to accompany both the main courses. After other few apologizes they finally admitted it was frozen and they just heat it. So not only we had probably the worst experience about the taste of the food, but we also felt they considered us as tourist fools they can scam with all the beautiful stories about the magnificent fresh made food. They’re lucky to have so many friends (or paid people?) to write wonderful reviews, but there’s not one single chance that they’re real. If you want to serve all frozen dishes, you should act and charge as a fast food. Long waits, lowest quality of the food, they treat...
Read moreThe outdoor seating is messy (tables positioning) and dirty (floor) - dried food / drinks stains, old leaves. Indoor flooring also did not seem that clean. We visited on a week day and footfall was very low - not more than 3 tables - ours included. So no excuse for the many staff not doing their job to keep the place clean… No ambiant music. Staff is nowhere to be seen in general. There is an overall feeling that the staff is not happy to work there…Never came to check if we needed anything else.
Service is slow. Took a while to get the starters (taboulleh and muhamara…which are typically already ready … They brought us one basket of Arabic bread once (3 pieces and we were 3 adults) and they never bothered bringing any more once it ran out. Again we were one of 3 tables and at least 6 staffs where there at that time…
I asked the waiter who took our order to repeat our (otherwise) simple order just to be sure he did not forget anything. He seemed confident nothing would be missing….and of course when we received our order something was missing. We decided to cancel the missing item as it was a starter and by the time we realized it was ‘forgotten’, we had already been served the main dish. So we asked to cancel it. The main dish was served without the sauce and pickles and we had to ask for it. 2 people brought us the meat (one plate :-)) but did not think of the usual condiment that comes with this particular dish…
Lamp pieces were not great - very overcooked. Tabouleh lacks taste. Muhammara is OK.
When we asked for the bill , they had removed the missing item…but double counted one of the other dishes…if I was paranoid I would say it felt deliberate….You can’t make that many mistakes in such a simple order. But it could be just be something extremely off with the staff basic skills…or seemingly not having customer service at heart.
Needless to say I will never return to this...
