I went with family the other day for dinner. It was for a birthday. We had been to La Tablita earlier and had liked it enough to go again.
We started with a nice bottle of wine with some guacamole and nachos. The guacamole was some of the nicest I’ve had. You can tell the kitchen used the best avocados they could buy when the guacamole tastes great.
We continued with more starters: Empanada con queso and Gringa al pastor. The gringa was especially nice and we ended up having two portions. Loved the perfect blend of cheese, tortilla and chicken in the gringa.
On to main courses, and the vegetarian among us ordered the mushroom quesadilla, while the rest of us shared a beef campechano, a portion of taco de cochinita, a molcajete chicken, a chicken fajitas and a pescado a la veracruzana. The pork tacos were excellent while we found the campechano was a little too dry. The chicken fajitas were great, I barely got to take a photo before it got demolished. The sea bass was nicely cooked and went well with the guajillo rice. The amount of rice was a bit more than was needed and some was left behind. The chicken molcajete was probably the best of the lot - filled to the brim, hot, spicy and cheesy. The big red chillie peppers were nicely cooked and got progressively spicier as you reached the stalk. Lovely stuff, taste buds were tickled and more.
Once the wine was done, we each explored the cocktails on offer. I liked the Sunset in a glass. The XXL margaritas were popular too.
The birthday girl got a Tres Leches cake. There really wasn’t much choice and we thought of a birthday cake only as an afterthought.
All through the dinner a DJ was plying his trade. He had a continuous stream of various Latin, African, other popular music set to a Latin beat going, and a nicely lit inviting dance floor. Soon there was a lively crowd of people dancing away. DJ Leo eventually found an Indian number in his library somewhere and triumphantly played it for us.
It was a great evening enjoyed by everyone. If you were looking for a nice place in Dubai serving some of the best Mexican, with drinks and a Latin beat going, I have the recommendation for you.
I should mention Paulina who waited on us all through the long evening. She was very patient, explained some of the dishes, offered suggestions and was generally nice and kind, with a...
Read moreMy worst birthday in 37 years! and I owe it all to La Tablita. I give it a star for the food being decent Mexican but the service makes you wish you never came across this name at all. The restaurant was devoid of any crowd, 4 to 5 tables at the most. From the moment I was shown to my table, our group was forgotten or maybe all 8 of us were invisible. It was seriously hard to tell the difference. 20 minutes and no one bothered to take a drink order until we called out. No one cared that we came to eat. We had to resort to shouting across the room that it would be nice to have someone take our order. Each time waiting a ridiculous amount of time and this continues through the night. Our 2nd request for chips and we are told that an (empty restaurant) ran out of chips. Finally the food comes before the chips and the staff is in a hurry to dump the food on our table and run off. I was told how to make a fajita in 5 seconds. Not that I needed it but if you are going to talk, make some effort. Finished eating and again have to wait to spot the staff just so we can get the bill. And to top it all off, my group spoke to 3 people when making the booking over 8 hours in advance that we wanted a small cake to be arranged. Promises were made not to worry about anything. After reaching, a reminder was given to the staff. The cake never came and we are told that the kitchen has closed after seeing another table getting a cake. So thanks for nothing La Tablita and I would strongly suggest picking any random restaurant for a better experience especially on an...
Read moreWe were invited for the food review to La Tablita for dinner & initially it wasn’t too crowded, but as the time passes it became crowded. This shows that people in Dubai really are fond of Mexican food. It has a Lively and colorful ambiance. They play Latin songs and we were relaxed and in the mood for a good time.
We were greeted by Mariana... with a sweet smile, & then by Florencia, who helped us in choosing our menu.... very friendly & helpful.
Main food highlights in this restaurant are the tacos, molcajete (main course) and tres leches (dessert). We were served several dishes from The menu .... some of them were .... 1- Tiradito de aguacate - a starter with a mix of avocado, cucumber, olive oil caviar. 2- Nachos with three different dips 3- Tacos- six assorted tacos 4- guacamole- traditional 5- Enchiladas verdes- Chicken, green tomato sauce with melted cheese 6- Molcajete- Beef tenderloin, king prawns, chorizo, cactus with morita chili salsa 7- Cordero- Lamb chops 8- Pollo- grilled half chicken with steamed vegetables
We For the drinks, they had a variety mocktails, which were very refreshing. I don’t remember the name though. 😐
From the desserts we choose out all time favorite Churros - super delicious & Tres Leches- vanilla sponge cake with jalapeño ice cream.
Staff are mostly from Mexico and we got to chat with them. Food was served quickly.
We also got to listen to the Mexican birthday song .... the whole staff gathered together to wish birthday to a client there. It was a good experience for us too. We enjoyed it a lot.
Thanks...
