A good place for south indian food lovers espcially Malabar food lovers. To start with is that person who is there in counter who welcomes people with a smile in his face is the face of this restaurant and he is also very good in customer service. They have a valet service, so that you can forget about difficulties of finding a parking and parking the vehicle. Moving on the interiors, they have a good ambience inside with a large seating capacity as they have seating in ground floor and first floor, they also have designed some area like a train compartment also seems to be a variety which makes the restaurant good for groups. The must try items are as follows. Meals here is very special and affordable and worth for the price. They have vegetarian meals and fish curry meals with about 8 to 10 numbers of sides and payasam which are really delicious. All the items are very tasty and all together it has enough quantity that may become a bit heavy for a person. They also have large varieties of special along with the meals which include variety of fishes and beef. As a safer side, I always prefer and advise everyone to ask the price of special items before you order and make sure that it will fit your pocket. I would also like to say that all these fish fries available here is very delicious and mind blowing as the masala applied on it is completing dig into the fish very much. I had experienced that in many restaurants fish fry will be like they will dip the fish in masala and directly putting into oil, in these case masala will not be blended into the fish and as a result fish will taste like just boiled. But here it is an entirely different case, I think they will marinate fish with the masala and keep it for some time. So that when we taste the fish we can feel the fish along with the well coated the masala which dug into the fish. As special items My recommedations are Kunjan Mathi fry, Manthal Fry and beef fry. The reason is that it can be easily shared by two people and are delicious too. I have tried Mutton Soup, Seafood soup and crab soup from here. All of them were delicious, of which I personally feel like Mutton soup here was the best among Mutton soups available in Karama area. It was very tasty with a great flavour of mutton in stalk and with bone along with some pieces in it which was so delicious. Naadan fish grill or Chuttulli fish, I think like a bit upscale items is very spicy and is marinated with a masala made of small onions and dried red chilly on tip of the fish and tawa grilled is a really amazing item to have from here. Beef fry is also a bit upscale which is not so dry and have some coconut pieces and have a flavour of pepper in it is a fabulous item. and finally Erachi choru which is a combination of beef and rice is mixed and prepared together, as the rice gets cooked in the stalk of beef, it will have a great flavour of beef and is super delicious and large in quantity which two people can eat. It find most of the items are a bit upscale as...
Read more26.11.2023 - wasn’t my first time. My husband and I have been coming to Malabar Express for a lot of times in the past, the last we had was in June and that was a good experience. For this time on Sunday, unfortunately it wasn’t. 2 stars as the average for the good experience I’ve had in the recent past and for this one.
Usually they would be giving the menu already upon sitting; on Sunday l, we had to wait for some time and we were thinking they might notice we don’t have menus. My husband had to ask for menus.
The food we ordered were: shrimp dry fry, beef dry fry, 4 pieces of paratha, and husband had the mota rice set meal. The shrimp size changed as I remember it would a bit bigger, but for that time, don’t know but it seemed that they cut costs and the shrimps were smaller. Comparing the service on the set meal- in other places, staff are attentive and would come to our table and “refill” the banana leaf with rice and other food items (of course they would ask my husband first). Here, my husband was trying to see if they would notice he ran out of rice. He waited a long time and I was telling him to just call the staff. Finally someone came and asked if he wanted more rice. They gave him rice but they didn’t give curry (which my husband said it’s automatic that they should give curry). He also waited for the curry which never came. I noticed that the parathas were taking long and we asked the staff how long it would still take. My husband had to remind the guy at the reception as we felt no one was paying attention or maybe they forgot our order.
Waiting for the paratha ruined the appetite I had and the okay mood I was in at the beginning. I told them in the past the paratha won’t take that long to come..we were ready to walk out and just leave because of the disappointing service, but we didnt..thought about food waste and integrity of still paying even though that kind of service should not be encountered by anyone. I hope I would still dare return to see if maybe the service...
