YO! Aberdeen Union Square — Restaurant in Aberdeen City

Yo, I gave you 4 stars 3 years ago. But you've definitely slipped. Yeah, slick changes with just qr codes for ordering and a the belt stops at your table and flashes when your order is there. That's swell, why not.

But. No squid anything 2 days ago. Big no no.

Salmon and avocado hand roll (my fave, was craving one for like 2 years) was just normal mayo, not the Japanese style one, seaweed not crispy, loosely rolled. It was ok, just not made with any love. Or like.

What was not ok was the Korean style duck fries, I think it was. Fries cooked fine technically, but no seasoning like AT ALL and duck topping was minimal and extremely dry, no sauce of any sort. Couldn't finish them, yet I wasn't full. Normally I eat every fry I can find. The duck just put me off I guess. And hey, I love duck! (Type that word carefully folks)

Got a sprite, driving. I should have drank it from the bottle, but instead I poured it in the cup. The cup, ugh. Think sippie cup plastic that scratches easy and never looks quite clean (I'm sure it was clean). Feels cheap and gross and the price you pay here, it's a bit insulting. Maybe customers can't be trusted with a glass? It wouldn't surprise me, but still - genuine glass doesn't seem like a massive ask.

Mushroom ramen, zero complaints man, it was deliciously shroomy.

My wife ordered slightly different food but was similarly a bit disappointed. Overall not bad, but not the good we were used to here and hoping for. So, simply OK....

Booked a Mother’s Day dinner. When placing our first order told there was no tuna. Subsequent orders, no cucumber, then no chicken wings, then is was no kaiso. Asked about the box of 10 cucumbers sitting next to us in the kitchen, told “oh I don’t know.” Unhelpful. Fine ordered what we could. Poke bowls came, order was wrong, informed waiter, waited 20 minutes and he didn’t come back with the correction. Got forgotten about. Then discussed the same thing all over again with a different waiter who didn’t seem to know his arm from his leg. No pomegranate seeds on our poke bowls as on the menu, asked, told there wasn’t any, though there was an entire pomegranate sitting right next to us on the kitchen counter. Figured the same as the cucumber scenario (they “don’t know”.) little exasperated at this point. Discovered my ‘base’ of spinach in my poke bowl transpires to be all but 7 spinach leaves. Yes I counted because it just seemed ridiculous as this point. So many dishes “unavailable.” Sister waited over an hour for an order that got forgotten about and never came. We left it as the next r ice was just diabolical it wasn’t worth the effort. £10 off bill but this was just such an unfortunate visit, particularly as we were treating our mum! Limited menu and shocking service. Hugely disappointed. Haven’t eaten here in years and the standards have dropped significantly. I would not...

as i’m writing this i am still in yo-sushi finishing the one thing that was actually enjoyable and that’s my bottle of coke ,i had not been in a while and was disappointed to see they had taken many of my favourites of the menu and replaced them with cheaper less satisfying alternatives.

most rolls on the belt were so poorly rolled they were falling apart with the movement of the belt making it more of a mush than a roll and in no way appetising to take off of the belt.

what used to be 2 nice thick slices of roll has seem to have become 3 thin slices , probably to give a false impression of a full plate , to thin to pick up without it falling apart .

the seared beef nigiri passing on a regular basis was either over cooked or grey for other reasons .

instead of looking appealing most of their food on the belt looked depressing, of poor quality or was just completely falling apart .

whatever i did eat lacked flavour and was so inconsistent it was just disappointing to have to eat it

my biggest mistake was not that i hadn’t been to yo sushi in a while but the fact i came back .

out of the 2 yo-sushi’s that were available in aberdeen they closed the wrong one , union square “restaurant “ was always my least favourite of the 2 but today they have surpassed their reasons why it’s...
