Imperial China — Restaurant in Ashford

Second time coming to this establishment and with the first time being average and this occasion being awkward and stressful, I'm not sure if we will ever come back. If we do then it won't be for a long while!

This restaurant only has 2 highchairs. So for any families visiting for dinner, you may be at a loss like ourselves when there were multiple families in and lack of basic needs such as a young child's chair.

The staff were friendly enough, it was the consistent hovering and staring that made us feel uncomfortable. We had ordered to then have 3 members of staff within 5 minutes ask if we had ordered to then have them stare at us regularly with no food on the table.

The wait was fairly long, I will give them credit it is hot when it comes out but with the mixture of the glares, lack of basic equipment and the fact they sat everyone around our table which wasn't 2 meters apart. It just all combined to the aura of the evening.

The food itself was actually fairly poor. Although we only had the starters because my partner came over ill fairly quickly (not due to the food). And despite him becoming pale, our patience wearing thin and something was clearly wrong by the urgency of asking for the bill, we were still charged FULL PRICE. £60 - 5 starters (3 of each item), a pitiful excuse of a "shredded duck" which was mainly fat and not forgetting 3 non alcoholic drinks. 2 adults, 2 children (one is 6 and the other is 2).

The disregard the staff had for our experience with them and just seeing us as walking wallets feels very insulting. I know the staff were aware of our lack of orders and time here because when the bill was requested she looked surprised. Yet nothing from the management to ask about the food or if we would like to come back again for half the price.

The decor reminds me of an under budgeted primary school hallway. Lifeless and cheap looking. There's no real character in the restaurant or staff. The one positive from this though is the nice lady that gave us the bill also gave my children a...

i only normally write reviews on good experiences as some bad ones just can't be helped, but on this occasion i am completely gobsmacked... as to the rude staff member in this restaurant, i have eaten at imperial china on many occasions and have always felt that some staff members are a little unhelpful and slightly unpleasant towards us but the food is normal good so put up with it but yesterday really done it, on arrival i was welcomed with how many...no hellos or welcome, so i explained it was a table of 4 but my 5 year old son does not eat chinese so only 3 eating the all you can eat please, i was astonished to be told my son was not allowed in, i explained again he has had a mcdonalds and will not be eating i said if you see him eat anything i will pay but the rude woman started shouting that he can not sit unless he pay all this in front of my 2 children, so i simply asked why she felt she could shout and be so rude to me and asked to speak to the manager, the manager is on holiday so you can't she shouted so you go....i have never experienced such a dreadful person and reading the reviews i will not be surprised if this person is the downfall of this restaurant, hopefully the manager will read this whom in fact is a very nice guy, so if you do read your reviews because the taller woman with the short hair is a disgrace to your business and you have now lost more paying customers,...

The food is lovely but as for staff, customer service...lol they really have not got that what so ever, my partner and I walked in with are two childern and they where excited sp where chatting kids ran to the table we walked over and all I can hear from behind me was shouting hey hey this isn't a playground walk in here or you can go out there and run.. never in my life have i seen anything like it comimg from the same lady that didnt greet us to start with gave hand signels to show which table was for us. I asked for food to be taken away and if it was ok to speak to management as my kids only ran to there table not even made noise jist ran over to there table and was very upset and scared of the lady after that, She tgen shouted again no mangers here no manger if your not happy you can now go!! We just walked out. Please if anyone is going out for dinner and have children this isn't the place to go far far from it like I said food lovely to order but never to go and sit in very unfriendly unpleasant uneducated on...
