This place used to be lively, we called in for lunch on a Sunday, my wife ordered the roast beef, and I had the butter milk chicken burger. We were the only people in.

The burger was overcooked to the point the coating fell off and tasted burnt, and the portion fries whilst fresh and edible was dismaly small.

The roast beef was a disaster, beef was like it had been boiled in a bag, the vegetables were reheated and we're like leather, same with the roast potatoes, the Yorkshire pudding was dried out and solid and the gravy was like water, portion was it was about as big as you'd expect a starter to be.

Service could have been better, we raised the poor quality of the Sunday lunch and the burnt chicken with the waiter at the begining of the meal and he said someone would be over shortly, but no one came, I was starving so pushed the burnt coating off the chicken off the burger and started picking at the salad and fries whilst we waited. Still no one came, I'd managed to pick my way through most of the chicken itself (which was nice and moist) when the waitress came over asking if we had finished and needed the plates clearing, we said we were still waiting for someone to come over to discuss the food. Shortly after the manager appeared and was very apologetic. And we ended up not being charged for the Sunday lunch (as it was pretty inedible) and having £3 knocked off the £14 chicken dish (as I'd managed to pick my way through most of the edible parts) if the manager had come over when we first raised the issue we would have returned the chicken as well.

Such a shame as this place used to be fantastic but we will not be...

Palatable & Pleasant - Highly recommended!

I visited the Pavilion on Wednesday (07/11/18) and loved it. Within a second two staff greeted me with smiles and the manager cleaned the table and had me seated within 10 seconds of walking in. The vibe is fantastic with wooden floors, industrial metal roof and the casual dining atmosphere added character to this new café, bar and kitchen restaurant.

The manager, Kay, took my order and I had to get the Bailey’s Coffee which after two sips had the kick I needed on the rainy afternoon. Over 15 customers seated and each one had a smile and the staff really cared about the service with frequent kitchen visits to keep the operation running smooth. Seeing the food coming out the kitchen, I had to order the Pulled Pork Burger and it was mouth-watering. Crispy fries, crunchy lettuce and coleslaw that made me wish for a Pavilion barbecue event as the burger and pork were cooked to perfection.

With an introductory discount of 20%, I paid £9.16 for a tasty burger and strong coffee which filled me up till this morning though is worth the full price. An added bonus is a discount of 10% to Council employees and being less than 1 minute from the Council could make it the next hotspot. High customer service, fantastic food and pleasant vibes.

Extra knowledge I found was that the Pavilion is owned by a Father and Son from Barnsley and the manager has 15 years’ experience in Bar Management in Barnsley. Pavilion is a clear example of local businesses that make Barnsley a great place to live, work...

Prebooked Sunday lunch a week in advance for 7 people on a birthday get together. We were told on arrival they only had Gammon left. So basically, the "walk ins" had a choice of our meats!

That's just for starters.

3 chopped garlic mushrooms on a small slice of white soggy bread - the menu said ciabatta. Pate served with one half of a toasted bagel cut into small wedges - menu said served on ciabatta bread. The gammon was like eating a bowl of salt. Ordered chorizo and jalapeño pizza but received a plain pepperoni. Roast potatoes were obviously boiled potatoes in skins then quick roasted for 10 minutes or so. Yorkshire puddings were small and like cake texture. Gravy was as black as coal.

Basically, nothing left by the time we got there because they had served 100 sittings when they usually do 30. Not the customers problem! A booking is a booking.

Absolutely shocking excuse when they've had our booking for over a week. The kitchen obviously had ran out of food so we had to make do with whatever they could muster together. Overpriced for the quality of food we ate. We received a discount but that doesn't cut bad planning, bad service and bad food.

Waitress was lovely but we won't...

It's a good place to go for a drink and a bite to eat with you friends but the food has disappointed this time. I usually have the small tapas dishes but the options are now very limited and expensive. There used to be an offer (something like 4 dished to the price of 3) but is now not offered. My wife said the Sunday lunch was dry and the mash potatoes did not contain milk and butter. The pan fried chicken was dry and the roast potatoes was just the potatoes used for patatas bravas which were soggy. Shame as the food was presented nicely. I went for the lamb meatballs which very cooked nicely (a little pink in the middle) but the sauce was fairly bland, taste like tinned tomatoes with a couple of herbs and spices. The attempt of the tzatziki was poor! The waiters were fab and very apologetic about the food being late, but as mentioned... the food was very late.
