We recently visited the Bathwick Boatman for a family birthday celebration and had Sunday Lunch. The actual restaurant itself was lovely and a bit quirky with nice decor. The inside of the restaurant was quite small and you only had a certain time frame to keep the table for. The service was the only thing that let our experience at the Bathwick Boatman down and had the service been better I probably would have rated this a 5 star. We arrived about 5 minutes late to our table but we were showed to our table promptly. The waitress came to take our drinks order quite quickly but then it was a while before our starters/mains order was taken. The starters came out and one of them was missing so we mentioned this to the waitress and this was brought out just as everyone else was finishing theirs. The bread and butter to accompany the starters also came out just as everyone was finishing their starters. I asked for some olive oil and balsamic vinegar for the bread but this never came. Our plates were cleared and then our mains came out not too long after and the mains looked delicious. I had the Roast Leg of Lamb which came out on a plate with gravy, a yorkshire pudding and 3 roast potatoes. The vegetables and cauliflower cheese came out separately to share between us. The Sunday Lunches on the menu came with sauces (e.g. Roast Leg of Lamb came with Mint Sauce) however we had to ask for the sauces as these did not come out at the same time as the mains. I wasn't a fan at all of the roast potatoes, mine were a bit hard in the middle and weren't crispy at all. The overall main apart from the potatoes I really enjoyed and the lamb was lovely. We then ordered desserts and I ordered a 'Warm Triple-Chocolate Brownie' with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice-cream. However when it came out it was nothing like a brownie, it was like a slab of chocolate cake, which I was disappointed about. There was a lot of staff working at the Boatman and all of them were very friendly and welcoming but I just felt the service was slow and could be...
Read moreSo lovely here. I took my wife for dinner and had such a wonderful meal I decided to take our kids with us for Sunday lunch. Now, that’s a bit more of a challenge as my youngest has a dairy and sesame allergy. Yes the sesame one like in the news about Pret. It’s always a worry so phoned ahead to ask. They were lovely - very careful and gave us full details and even went out to get dairy free ice cream for dessert (try Ben and Jerry’s new range it’s awesome). Beautiful setting and lovely lunch - I had the duck patte, followed by roast lamb and then salted choc caramel warm brownie. The house merlot is also a glass of rich joy. They gave my youngest salad with oatcakes, the roast lamb, and chocolate cookies ice cream. She was happy, which means we were happy. It’s good to find somewhere that cares and copes (the main stay restaurants like Pizza Express, Carluccios, Weatherspoins etc all cope well with allergies but the food isn’t in the same league). This is a gem of a little restaurant with the most wonderful food and charming service. My wife paid too as it was my birthday, so I have no idea what it costs - double win! {Sorry to the staff if we stressed you out with the allergy thing - the Pret news has highlighted it recently. We live with it and have to check everything we ever give her - but it was a true delight and we are most grateful for...
Read moreSpent a long weekend in Bath to celebrate my wife's birthday and didnt want a chain restaurant experience. Found the restaurant in hotel's Bath guide, looked at reviews and decided to book. All I can say is WOW!!! Restaurant is situated next to Bath Boating Club on banks in River Avon and is wonderfully picturesque. Decor is simple but has a warm , rustic feel which really supports the wonderful atmosphere. Staff on duty Millie, Connie and Lulu were very attentive and had good knowledge of all dishes on the menu. We had our 10yr old son with us and although there isnt dedicated kids menu, there will prepare something like grilled chicken and chips or a pasta dish if you request. Wife was unsure about the soup starter but Millie gave it her recommendation and she was not disappointed. Wife still says its the best soup she has had in a restaurant. I had the pork belly with chorizo mash and it was simply different class.Trust me this review could go on forever with positive comments but to wrap up, if you want a great experience, great food, great service this is the place to be. Well done to all involved in making our evening really enjoyable. Keep up the...
