We went on holiday to Somerset, basing our stay in Bath.|This was the second Hotel we stayed at during our stay as we split the visit between two hotels.|The holiday was myself, my husband and our 7 nearly 8, year old miniature Dachshund.|It's always quite difficult to find dog friendly hotels that are a good standard of accommodation. ||We liked the look of this hotel, but unfortunately I hadn't really taken in that there were steps up to the entrance or that there wasn't a lift. Might not seem plausible but I'd had a lot to organise.||My husband and I are both disabled. I'm 65 and my husband is 60.|I have Osteo-Arthritis, diagnosed 3 years ago, and it's in at least 3 places in my spine. It's quite painful and I don't always walk very well.||My husband had a brain injury some years ago and his short term memory isn't great, plus it can take him a little bit of time to process information.||As with most hotels, we were charged extra for our dog, and extra for the car park. |In previous years on holiday hotel car parks would be free if you were staying at the hotel.|We also found that in the Bath area Taxi's charge extra for dogs.||When we arrived the staff were great, and we were assisted to get our luggage inside and up to our room.||Our room was room 9, one of their dog friendly rooms.|The room was lovely. Quite spacious, nicely decorated, with a big bed and lots of pillows. It also had two comfy chairs plus a dressing table and chair.||The bathroom was a bit disappointing. It was small with a really small shower cubicle.|With me being disabled, plus only being 4ft 11.5 inches tall I found it difficult. Plus the shower head was huge and directly overhead. I just couldn't get away from it. You got your hair completely wet every time you went in whether you wanted to or not.||The room was generally very clean, but the shower cubicle wasn't. It could have been cleaner, and the grout needed re-doing.|Also, the water didn't drain from the sink. You had to press the tap repeatedly like a plunger to get it to go down. My husband had to do it every time I used the sink because I don't have the strength in my hands or arms.||What was great was that the bathroom didn't smell!!|In the hotel in Warwick that we broke our journey at, and the first hotel we stayed at in Bath, the bathrooms smelled of drains. Not here.||The bed and the chairs were super comfy. I slept really well while we were there and so did my hubby. Having lots of pillows helps me-I can position them around me to support my back and my neck.||The room was supposed to have Netflix-but disappointingly it didn't work.|Staff members were super helpful and tried their very best to put it right, they spent a lot of time trying, which we really appreciated, but we think it probably needed an Engineer.|As I've said in other reviews, with my health problems (I have lots apart from my back) I spend a lot of time in hotel rooms if I am not feeling well while we're on holiday.|Years ago I spent nearly a whole holiday in Barcelona in our hotel room.|So it is really important that the room is comfortable and has amenities like Netflix available.||The only other thing about the room that was irritating was the blinds. They were really awkward to open and close and seemed flimsy. We were a bit reluctant to touch them in case we broke them.||The hotel was very nicely decorated throughout. And was clean.||The staff members without exception were so polite, helpful and kind. A special shout out to Christie, Candice and Kim who looked after us and gave us their time.|I can't recommend the staff highly enough.||There was a park directly across the road from the hotel which was great for taking our dog for a walk and to the loo.|Also it wan't far to walk into town, even for me.||The only other minor thing was on a night. We didn't have a key to the front door and after the bar closed there didn't seem to be any staff members around.|So when my hubby took our dog out last thing on a night, he had to resort to wedging the front door open so that he could get back in to the hotel and he always took his phone in case he got locked out, so that he could call me and I could come down and let him back in.|We don't know if that was an oversight on the part of the hotel-that we should have been told the protocol or given a front door key?||We had breakfast included.|We only usually have toast and a hot drink.|The toast was great and the glasses of Orange juice were huge and lovely and fresh.||I have to say that this is the most dog friendly hotel we've stayed at. Nothing regarding our dog was a problem.|He was even given his own basket, food and water bowls.||We really enjoyed our stay here and we would happily stay again if we come down to Bath...
Read moreI really wanted to love this place but unfortunately it flattered to decieve, I had a really good stay and as a result will not be too harsh but there were a number of niggly things which mean it really cant class itself as a 5 star establishment. I'll start with the bad and end with the good. We were told our room was an upgrade so really dont want to think what our original room would have been like. Our room was small, the bathroom really really tired and the bed was simply far too soft for me, I sunk into it and really didnt sleep well either night. The blinds on the window also felt cheap. On arrival the reception area is tiny and not befitting of a hotel, I dont use b and b's but if I did this is how I imagine they would feel like. I parked up in the car park, next to a skip which has bathroom stuff in it so expect our room is on the list to get a new bathroom. I really cant blame the hotel for this but unfortunately I noticed my car had been keyed when we left leaving me very upset, it hadnt moved and I am fastidious about this sort of thing so it must have been done in the car park. Also we were charged £40 to park from Friday evening to Sunday morning and that felt a bit steep for me. Reasons this hotel is not 5* - no fridge, no room service, poor bathroom, being asked to give a breakfast time the night before, having to ring a bell when back late, instant coffee in the room with sachet milk is not a good look. The breakfast was good but not excellent and the coffee was incredibly weak. We paid £410+parking for 2 nights which I didnt feel was value for money especially for mid January. All the above said, I would consider staying here again but would lower my expectations. On to the good, the staff are excellent, really friendly and couldnt do enough to help. The loaction is also excellent, just a short walk from the city centre. The orange juice at breakfast was also excellent. Despite the tired bathroom everywhere was spotlessly clean, the towels and pillows were also good and all staff came with a smile. I truly feel this hotel should drop the 5* claim and bill themselves as a (half) decent luxury bnb. I hope this honest...
Read moreI stayed here for one night with my husband to celebrate our wedding anniversary. ||We had such a warm welcome on arrival. Check in was very smooth and upon entering our room (21), we noticed a small sweet treat had been left for us on the bed, along with a note on a card to wish us a happy anniversary. It was such a lovely gesture, which we both really appreciated!||The room (which had kindly been upgraded) was beautiful! It had a big, comfortable bed, dual aspect windows, both of which had superb views! Especially the one which overlooked Henrietta Park! There was plenty of space in the room, a seating area with two chairs and a dressing table and chair. The shower room was spacious, and the toiletries and vanity set provided were a lovely added touch of luxury! ||We had tea and coffee making facilities and a large bottle of still water. There was a mini fridge as well. We also had two shortbread biscuits, which were made in-house! They were so yummy and went down well with a cup of tea!||In the wardrobe, we found two robes and some slippers. There was a hairdryer, but no iron. Reception immediately brought one to our room when we called down to ask. They also brought a bucket of ice up as we had requested when we arrived.||The location is perfect! It's such a quiet setting opposite the lovely Henrietta Park. |It took us around 5 minutes to walk into the centre - a very pleasant stroll! ||We didn't eat at the hotel as we decided to go out for the evening. We also decided to have breakfast out, so we weren't restricted to timings. Which allowed us to be lazy on Sunday morning! So we can not review the food... but maybe next time?! ||We will definitely stay again and will also be highly recommending to friends and family! ||Thank you to all at The...
