Meh. We had been wanting to try Hudson’s for a while. We showed up without a reservation, and the exceptionally friendly bartender was super quick in finding us a table, despite a server saying they were fully booked (although half of the ground floor’s tables were empty, and remained such for the entirety of our visit). Our server, on the other hand, seemed like he would rather be anywhere else in the world than at work. He scowled throughout, and acted like every request was too much for him, taking 10 minutes to bring us water, and abandoning ship when we requested our bill, to the point where we eventually had to go to the bar to get our check and pay. The food was decent, but nothing special. There are better burgers and steaks in town, and considering that’s what Hudson’s prides itself on, I probably wouldn’t return.

I love steak and when I asked for places to eat during our two night stay in Bath, this restaurant was recommended by the concierge of our hotel and I am glad they did. I booked online - which was dead simple although it was midweek and probably a bit quieter. When we arrived we were seated immediately, we didn't have starters and went straight for the main course. I had a 10oz fillet which was cooked perfectly and was wonderfully tender, the peppercorn sauce was also spot on. Would I say it's the best steak I have ever eaten? Maybe not, but it's definitely in the top 5. We shared a lemon panna cotta for dessert and this was also excellent, Bellissima!! I would absolutely book here again if we're in Bath and I would absolutely recommend the place to anyone else in the area. 5 stars

Back to Hudson's again for a little celebratory meal with my partner. Fantastic service from start to finish. All of the staff were extremely friendly. We had Fillet steaks with Parmesan truffle fries and Gratin douphinoise. The steaks were cooked to perfection and I could even go as far as saying that it was the best steak I have ever had!! The fries and Gratin were the perfect accompaniment. For dessert we had sticky toffee pudding and Belgian waffles. The sticky toffee was to die but the waffles were just ok. Nothing wrong with them they were just waffles with sauce. Overall another amazing trip to Hudson's and the best steaks we have ever eaten!! Well worth the money and we will most definitely be back!!

Tried this place for our annual Christmas steak dinner as Bristol was unfortunately fully booked.

Despite the prices being similar to those in Bristol this was incredibly disappointingly and I feel it prudent to share my experience with future steak seeking diners. However, I doubt the restaurant will really take this into consideration.

Upon entrance we should have known we were in for a treat when we saw our first red flag - the barman taking our order whilst sinking a shot behind the bar

Then came the food.

Our starter did a better disappearing act than David Copperfield by not actually showing up at all. Then when asking about the ‘larger steaks’ detailed on their menu it felt like we were asking whether exterestrial life had been found in Bath in recent days as they were absolutely and completely oblivious to the size and shapes they sell. 2nd red flag of the night.

We ordered 4 rib eye ‘’superior marbled’ steaks which showed up quicker than Usain Bolt in 2012 with some miserable waiter who was clearly banned from communicating with customers dumping our steaks in our laps. We had to play a game of guess the steak which was fun before we realised they were all cooked medium rare - success for those who ordered medium rare… hurrah!

Once biting into the steaks It was soon apparent they should replace ‘superior marbled’ with ‘disgustingly gristled’ on the menu as the steaks were average at best and overpriced for what they were.

We then convinced ourselves to pay even more money for a dessert to desperately save our annual steak dinner. After 25 minutes they decided to come take out order. Amazing how a £26 steak can arrive quicker than someone taking a dessert order.

However; I don’t want the whole review to be negative - wine, truffle fries and sticky toffee pudding were good.

Probably best to go to...

Date Friday 13th 2015 myself and partner have been going to this steakhouse for some 18 months and in that period we've visited 8 times and have had no reason to complain.

However on the date mentioned above we ordered the special deal which is £15.95 per head which also includes a glass of wine, The food arrived in good time the steak was as good as always, but the problem started when we received the bill.

We noticed we were charge for pepper corn sauce £1.95 which was not ordered (the manager insisted we did and this was done vocally in front of other customers ) we were also charged an upgrade on the wine of £1.95. This is where Hudson's need to be open and transparent as I'm no wine connoisseur as when I was asked what wine we both wanted with our meal I just asked for 1 Savignon blanc and Pernod & black instead of a wine, but on the bill it showed the Pernod & black as a separate drink at £3.95.

When we came to pay the bill I queried all the above extras, as stated the female manager/head waitress became very bolshy and commented it's not down to us to tell you that if you choose not to have a glass of wine or another drink or type of wine it will be charges as an upgrade to the bill. Under duress she took the pepper sauce off the bill but stated the drink had to stay.

The only reason we paid at this point was she made us feel we couldn't question our bill as she was prepared to have an unprofessional open abrupt discussion in front of other customers who were clearly embarrassed for us.

Conculson .......... We will not be going back there again as it's left a bad taste in our mouths, next time we feel like a steak we'll try the COW SHED around the corner which is new to bath and has...

I was really looking forward to eating here as it had been highly recommended by a trusted colleague. I don't know whether I've done something to offend said colleague but I'm sad to report that the experience wasn't not a good one.

The restaurant had a lovely ambiance, quiet inside without being too stuffy. Our greeting was professional and friendly, after which we were shown to our table. Then the problems began;

We asked a few simple questions at the time of ordering about the size of the steaks, whether sharing sizes were available etc but we were made to feel like it was an inconvenience. Our order was taken and our food arrived very quickly. When I say quickly I mean unnervingly so, I'd say somewhere between 5 to 10 minutes for a table of four. Unfortunately they missed one of our sides. Our steaks all cooked the same despite three being rare and one medium rare. Two of the steaks were of a high quality, unfortunately my steak was not one of them as it had a lot of fat and gristle. We would have liked to give feedback on this however there seemed to be a reluctance from the waitress to ask even though two of us left a significant amount uneaten. We were given the dessert menus then waited for 30 minutes for someone to take our order (we ended up having to flag someone in the end). I think it is worth pointing out that the restaurant was half full, so it wasn't a case of the staff being overworked more that we had become persona non grata because we were obviously unhappy.

All in all a very...
