A recent addition to the Casque-Mark Ale Trail and the reason for my visit. Much changed (for the better) since my last visit over 18 months ago. The bar and dining areas reconfigured into a more pleasing arrangement. The large white bear figure atop the porch at the entrance has been moved back. At one time, it leaned over the porch and dramatically looked as if swiping at patrons entering. But I digress, back to the beer. There were only two ale available at the time of visit and only one of these had been drawn off - the house 'Great Bear' 3.9%abv source, Greene King. A big plus factor is the multiple screens raised high and the showing of the Six Nations. This is definitely a place to go for those interested. Food and accommodation I know not, but if the kitchen produces food as competently as the cellar does the beer - and the accommodation is as well found as the bar and dining area, I cannot imagine many complaints arising from either department.

2 nights stay in one of the rooms with breakfast included. Enjoyed the whole decor of the room and pub, lots of wood with a cosy feel to it. Breakfast was freshly served from cooking as the food was piping hot, as we were on a holiday we had dinners planned elsewhere so only the breakfast for us. Staff were always helpful and chatty and checked we had enough towels etc halfway through our stay. Good atmosphere in the evenings, had a few drinks on the final night - good prices with a BIG gin selection and a solid choice of beer too. Ive noted other reviews mention noisy floors, the floors are noisy in some places but I too live in a real wood house with noisy boards: teaches you how to walk properly without stomping eh! Thank you for your hospitality, well done Team.

Brilliant pub. Service : 10/10 : perfect service. The lady that serviced us was brilliant. Very friendly, very kind and super helpful. Exactly how all service anywhere should be! Thank you! Food : 10/10 : spot on, perfect pub food. Menu wasn’t huge, but that’s a good thing. Because the food you service you nail. Scenery : 9/10 : very nice scenery, pub garden and benches outside are great. Price : 8/10 : maybe it’s a little pricey in terms of food. I’ve been to some pubs that are similar and charge £3/£4 less. However the food is brilliant so can’t complain too much. Drinks are average price for the area All in all I’d love to go back and I will. Brilliant pub, once again thank you for a very nice Sunday!

Good location to visit central Bath as long as you don't mind walking up and down the fairly steep hill, didn't bother me but I think the wife preferred taking the bus. In fairness the bus stops right outside and is pretty regular as quick as walking. Sorry, back to the Bear. We stayed 2 nights and I would say it's at the dearer end of my scale for a fairly basic room. The room how ever had all you need with a good selection of hot drinks you could make for yourselves. The bed was a double, could get a kingsize in and would make it much nicer; however the bedding was nice and fresh and the bed was very comfortable. Bathroom was very good, decent sized shower stall, nice fluffy towels. Breakfast was included with our stay and we had it both morning's. I had the full English both times and it was very good, I would happily come for a breakfast here if I lived nearby. My wife had the American style pancakes on the second morning and she thought it was just as good as the full English she'd had the day before. All the staff we met were friendly and efficient and I don't think I saw Gyom stand still for more than about 30 seconds at one time. If i go back to Bath I would definitely look at the Bear before...

We stayed here and had two rooms over the weekend. ||Good points |The staff are great|The restaurant and our evening meal was lovely|Comfortable bed and clean nice bed linen|No noise from the bar/restaurant downstairs. |Good shower and toiletries and lovely quality towels |The room is quiet despite being on a main road||However|My room (room 4) was dark and dismal..|Barely any daylight and difficult to see.|There is an absolutely dreadful smell in the dark gloomy corridor that leads to the bedrooms. This smell seeps into the bedroom. It was there constantly and has also been mentioned in previous reviews over the past years, so this is definitely not a one/off.|The windows (dirty) cannot be opened so no fresh air, only aircon.|The furniture is tatty (old, stained and handles missing etc) The walls are damaged and have not been repaired. |Tiles missing in the bathroom |The room needs a complete make over - it is dated and thoroughly depressing. |It certainly is not a boutique style room and I would not recommend anyone to stay here. It would be acceptable for a £75 b&b but certainly not at the price I paid for this. Thoroughly disappointing and certainly not like the...

Really upset with my experience here.

I arrived and it wasn’t clear if it was seat yourself or table service etc. so I wanted to ask and also ask for a lunch menu and this wasn’t obvious either.

I waited at the bar for a good few minutes when a member of staff said “I’ll be with you in a minute”… I just wanted a menu.

I’m heavily pregnant and waiting around isn’t really something I cope well with at the moment. I need a seat.

This member of staff proceeded to clean some spoons, pour some water down the sink and rearrange something on the coffee machine. Odd because they weren’t attending to a customer.

After a few more minutes she then went over to a table and took their order. At this point I’d had enough and just walked out and went to the Bear Cafe for lunch instead.

This was just a quiet Monday lunch time so hardly busy and I was expecting much better service and to be made to feel welcome.

There were two members of staff front of house as well so why one couldn’t attend to me I do not know. All in all very...
