Used to go to Prezzo a few times a year for dinner before the pandemic. Not so for a while because their menu was getting rather repetitive. So had been trying other non-chain restaurants when we went out for Italian.
Got a general email from Prezzo on 29 Nov promoting their Christmas festive set menu of 2 courses for £22 or 3 courses for £25.50 from Monday to Thursday. However, another email came a day later (30 Nov) saying that there was a mistake and that the offer is in fact valid for 7 days a week. This amendment looked interesting and so we booked a table for two to dine at their Bath restaurant on Sunday 4 Dec at 6pm. On filling the booking form online, the system did not ask us to specify the type of meal required. A confirmation email for our table booking came the day before.
Turned up at the restaurant at 5.55pm and greeted at the front door by a sign saying that they would only serve customers with table bookings that night. A little while after entering the restaurant we were greeted by we think the manager. He said the restaurant was very full. We responded by giving him the details of our table booking. The manager went away and returned a little while saying that they had the last table for us. Because of the way he said it, the manager gave us the impression that we were indeed lucky to have a table despite the fact that we had a booking made in advance.
The restaurant was indeed very full although customers of a few tables had just finished their meals and were leaving the restaurants not long after we were seated down.
On the table there were two copies of menu. When one of the waitresses finally approached us some 5 minutes later, we told her that we would like to see their festive menu and showed her the Prezzo email. The waitress then said she needed to consult her manager. She returned after a minute or two with the festive menu. After another 5 minutes or so, the same waitress returned to take our order, We wanted to have the prawn as the starter and the sea bass on roasted vegetables as the main mainly because they were the most inviting dishes on the menu and of their low calories. To our surprised, the waitress replied by saying that the sea bass dish is no longer available on the night. Is it not a standard practice for the diners to be told upfront what is not available on the menu when it is first presented to the diners? We could not help thinking that the sea bass dish was indeed available if we had not asked for the festive menu.
Given that the dish that we were invited to try on the Prezzo email was unavailable and that the overall reception by the restaurant was disappointing, we left the restaurant and went somewhere else.
We have not dined at Prezzo for a long while and so we thought we would give it another try. Clearly the experience that we had at the Bath restaurant last Sunday night was not pleasant to say the least. I trust that other customers had a good time there but it was definitely not for...
Read moreThis was a difficult review to write. I thought the service was excellent, all the staff really did their best and were so friendly and welcoming, and we were served really quickly and got the bill quickly as well. The drinks were fantastic, sour cherry and strawberry and apple coolers were full of flavour. We were here for the 99p Monday meal offer.
The spaghetti bolognese was the worst I'd ever had. It was all mixed up- and was very watery, and had barely any flavour at all. It was just plain overcooked spaghetti with some very watery tomato sauce, a miniscule amount of beef and garnish it was the blandest most tasteless thing I've ever eaten. Economy brand frozen microwave spaghetti bolognese from discount supermarkets is far superior in taste and quality, such a shame. (Please see pic, you can see how watery it is!)
The spaghetti carbonara was better, but still very bland. There was quite a lot of pepper in the sauce which wasn't very authentic, after coming back from Italy the carbonara we had there didn't have any pepper in it, and apart from that it didn't have much flavour- very milky and too mild - but the consistency was way better and we enjoyed the crispy ham. Still nothing like what we had in Italy.
We did really like the biscoff cheesecake though.
I think if this restaurant improved the pasta dishes it could be a winner, but I'd feel robbed if I paid £10 for either of those pasta meals we had today! 2 stars is for the cheesecake the service and the really nice atmosphere of the restaurant. We still enjoyed our evening. But left...
Read moreWe were having a fabulous time however we felt that the service let down the experience. After travelling to Italy a couple of months ago our new favourite drinks become Limoncello sprtiz, pretty much the same as an Aperol spritz except using Limoncello. A Limoncello spritz wasn’t on the menu but we thought it’ll be a simple swap of spirits and easy enough to request, this wasn’t the case. The manager wouldn’t allow us to change the spirit as it would effect their stock levels, instead we needed to build our own which would cost £19 per spritz, we politely declined. When it came to order phone I notified the server that I had a 50% off food code, she scanned the code and our food came out quickly. It was fresh, hot and delicious. It was relatively busy however we were left waiting a while after our dessert but we managed to flag someone down to request the bill. When it came the discount code was not applied, I advised that a lady scanned our code when we ordered (the server then attempted to rescan but it showed as already used). We were told the lady would come over. A few minutes later the lady came over and we explained that the code she scanned when we ordered she then proceeded to gaslight me “are you sure I scanned the code” my sister and I were stunned. I said yes absolutely, you can check the cameras. We were told there was no cameras but she would apply manually. We left feeling really uneasy at how we were treated. I understand you’re busy but to gaslight your...
