I came here yesterday lunchtime, for my work Christmas do, to the Cabaret Supper Club. (1230-5pm).
The welcome at the door was friendly, and on arrival the staff seated us quickly. It’s quite a large room, maybe seats about 120-150, With a very opulent cabaret style setting. The drinks orders were taken almost immediately, and everything was run by the staff with no fuss, and very friendly.
The food came out quickly but not rushed, and I have to say that given the amount of people in the room vs staff, the service was exceptional. No wait, but again no rush at all.
The quality of the food I couldn’t fault, it was consistently good through each course, and the portions were just right for a 3-course meal. If you’re wanting a huge ‘piled-high feed’ though, this ain’t the place for you. But I’ll take quality of quantity every single time. I had a lovely smooth parfait, gorgeous 2-way duck, and citron tarte. Super tasty.
The cabaret was a bit of a surprise to be honest. The website certainly gives the impression of traditional burlesque entertainment, but it’s actually very adult themed. We came with a work party and if we’d known how much further past burlesque it was I don’t think we would have booked. The compère is standard bad language drag queen, and the burlesque was less cirque du soleil and more back room strip bar I’m afraid. More open honest stuff on the website would be good. It says adult themed in very small wording. I’m not offended by sexual or profane content at all, but if there’s people that are, they would, and did, feel uncomfortable and worse, excluded. Having said that, 95% of the room were having a ball so it’s not that it’s rubbish, just not for all. Be warned.
I have to single out the two girls running the room, one with a lovely silvery skirt, and the other with cool neck tattoos, they had the place going like clockwork from where I was sitting. Absolutely bloody brilliant. All the staff were friendly, helpful, knew what they were doing, and also didn’t boot us out the door at the end. The staff and owners should be proud of themselves this is a well priced, quality, tightly run but really friendly ship.
Highly recommended, with the adult...
Read moreDisappointing visit! Frosty welcome from member of staff, made even worse by the fact the couldn’t find our reservation even though we had proof of paying deposit. Couple of things off the menu which wasn’t highlighted when we sat down and when made aware to us at time of order it was apparently because they had a staff night out the night before and they had all the items we wanted. Starters we ordered weren’t up to much. lacking in size, originality and flavour. No finger bowl or extra napkins supplied for the whole prawns. Burger wasn’t up to much for mains. Cheese was burnt and chips were just cooked. The mussels were awful. They tasted that bad we had to send them back. I genuinely can’t think of a time I’ve ever had to send food back to the kitchen for being inedible. We both love mussels so this wasn’t our first rodeo but something just wasn’t right. Granted there were other diners eating them so maybe saffron white wine and garlic just wasn’t to our taste. Hmm. Anyway, there was no apology or offer of a substitute until 10 mins later when another batch of mussels turned up at the table uninvited. Naturally we sent it back having not asked for it and at that point were offered something different because “we were probably not used to the flavours”. Anyway we declined, due to the fact the burger was finished (we had to share it) the sides of duck macaroni (awful), greens (barely cooked) and curly fries were eaten or not touched. Just took the check and left. I’ve only given two stars because the decor is class and we did both love that but service and food was really disappointing. We...
Read moreWas there on Friday for a small Hens and omg we had an absolute ball!
Food was fantastic, plenty of it and really tasty a tad old fashioned but in a good way. I'd prawn cocktail to start with, it's really difficult to get this now, it's definitely fallen out of favour with the emphasis now on "brushetta with sun dried tomatoes lovingly sun-dried by 150 year old Italian nonna's' I'm obviously being tongue in cheek here but you get the drift lol. It was lovely to go down a bit of memory and reminded me of evenings out years ago (definitely showing my age here lol). I'd the chicken for my main and there was loads of it, so ended up taking most home with me.
Decor: Definitely a lovechild of Moulin Rouge and Chicago from the 20s. Very tacky but kitsch!
Service: Couldn't have asked for better service! We'd a lovely server, who was really friendly and helpful without it being forced. We didn't get their name unfortunately but they were amazing.
Entertainment: The caberet was amazing, the singers were absolutely amazing, Adele, Aretha Franklin et al eat your hearts out! I ended up going quiet at times because I was transfixed by the music! During the performances MC David Doherty Jebb kept us laughing constantly! I've lived in Dublin for nearly 25 years now and I miss the cuts to the bone, raw totally un-pc humour and we got it in spades here. Definitely be warned its not for delicate people who offend easily or your elderly granny!
My only small niggle was there was no soap in the...
