Excellent doorman, One fine barman, great drinks. But... Poorly observed equality. Opulent entitled bores fill the seats whilst the serfs hang back in limbo. Floor manager or whatever the hell he's supposed to be, appears to have a stick up his behind. So far he can't see what's happening around him. I guess it's a difficult job dealing with such entitled bores. These people don't realise the roots of jazz come from the common Man, not folk that these absolute wasters will ever relate to. Gentrification of an area is sickening, gentrification of jazz is diabolical.
C'est la vie.
On a positive note, the bar inside the call wise is magnificent, it was like stepping into goodfellas the movie. And the ambience was similar. I felt like the spirit of Ray Liotta was alive and well standing next to me. It was magical for 25 minutes, then I went for a cigarette which was a big mistake. I lost the spot I had been allocated at the bar, there was nowhere left that I was allowed to stand. In fact the floor manager or whatever he is, went out and got the doorman to come in to sort me out for standing in the wrong place. Ffs.
I mean, this is a jazz bar, jazz music is rooted in black America, folk who were deeply oppressed. And yet in this jazz bar, they cater to the entitled and treat the oppressed poorly. White people, always getting it wrong. And before anybody accuses me of racism, I have lots of white friends. Furthermore other than my freckles I'm essentially a white man. But not in this modern jazz age. Where cash is king & manners are weakness.
Not at all groovy.
Summary

Read moreWhat a place!!! I Lo❤️e Jazz 🎸🎶, Love a great atmosphere and live music, who doesn’t? We came across this venue by accident and thought we’d try it. We weren’t dressed up though and felt we’d get rejected initially. Well, we got the warmest welcome, ushered to our seats, provided with Beautiful cold water without even asking and then provided a top star service for drinks. I requested a cocktail that wasn’t on the menu. The waitress, bless her, did nothing but get the ingredients offline and created my cocktail for me, and boy did she do a grand job! All the staff we interacted with were fantastic! Super friendly, Professional, smart, warm, welcoming and made Berts even more attractive. We had some drinks and enjoyed the live Jazz music from the musicians. Just loved this evening to finish off our stay in Belfast. If you’re after a fantastic vibe, a date night, live music, professional friendly service with reasonably priced drinks, then look no further, in fact, put Bert’s at the top of your list and you won’t go anywhere else, I promise you. Thank you ‘Berts’ for a great evening. Have a try if ‘Madeline’ cocktail. It’s...
Read moreWe went for a birthday meal and had an excellent chateaubriand, and some great cocktails; however the bar seemed to be having great trouble making the drinks. We started with a pair of cocktails and some olives, all of which were excellent, as was the service throughout. We then ordered some wine and another cocktail to go with the steak. The wine eventually arrived (after two further requests) right as we were finishing the main course. The cocktail (a rich negroni-style drink to accompany the steak) was still not ready by the time the plates were cleared, so we cancelled it and moved onto dessert. We were there for nearly nearly two hours before my second drink arrived, along with dessert. What made it more galling was we were sat in plain view of the bar, and could see the four staff standing around and chatting, occasionally making a drink and clearly not being rushed off their feet as it was early and half-empty. Overall it seemed like a great place, and the waiting staff were very attentive, if unable to do anything about the drinks. Perhaps we were just there on a bad night. Shame the waiters were let down by...
