Bit of a love/dislike relationship with this bar. For a long while it was the only one on the scene; maybe this made the owners complacent. Certainly the drinks selection is surprisingly limited especially in this day and age (and hipsterdom) compared to all nearby bars. The music is also usually way too loud to actually enjoy a drink and conversation with friends except weekdays or early in this day. Downstairs is usually very crowded on weekends or during events which makes getting a drink a bit of a trek (been overlooked by bar staff enough times to be a bit wary of my chances whenever it's my round). On the upside it has cool decor and there is usually some space upstairs if it's ever too full downstairs, with its own bar up there as well (limited selection but handier than chancing it downstairs. It is usually more lively than the other bar on the scene and there are plenty of events on that draw a crowd throughout this week which are fun to watch (or if you're brave enough join in!). If they update/expanded their beer selection, and had the music a little less ear piercing I'd go more and rate it...
Read morePoor hospitality,it lacks in customer service. And staff very unfriendly, and not very welcoming. A smile goes a long way. This bar in belfast, not what it used to be especially in union bar. "APPALLING". I'm glad we don't come into the city that often. Atmosphere, isn't good. No air conditioning its stuffy and body odour and unhygienic bar and glasses to drink out of. And toilets stinking of urine and urine over the floor and toilet seat ect. And no hand soap or hand gel or toilet roll, obviously not being checked regularly. Staff and particularly the bouchers not very friendly, they stare at you. Very intimidating indeed, lots of women and straights 95%. All the old faces from before not to be seen anywhere,I wounder why? 🤔 Anyone thinking of visiting here, unless you know someone I wouldn't bother. We thought we'd come to visit to see if any improvements but "NO" very disappointed. Over priced for drinks. Don't think we will be back. I see them closing in the...
Read moreThis bar used to be so good I actually had my first legal pint in here, I’m so disappointed in how downhill it has gone, I remember it used to be such a place of pride for LGBT community you could come for a bite to eat, a coffees and of course a drink. Now it only opens late for drinks and even then it doesn’t have vibe it used to. I went in tonight a Saturday night I’m a lesbian with my gay male friend who is originally from here but lives in Liverpool, we decided to come to the bar for the nostalgia but was met by a bouncer who looked us up and down in intimidating way before letting us in which made us both feel uncomfortable as people who have been going here for years. Clearly we aren’t only ones who felt this way considering for a Saturday place was dead the business you’d expect on a random Tuesday night meanwhile the other gay bar Maverick actually had a Que outside to get in! Hope bar can turn itself around and become a great place for our...
