Afrikana, Ladypool Road, Birmingham. Food 10/10 Decor 10/10 Ambience 8/10 Price 8/10 People 3/10 Right Afrikana was an amazing experience. Was served by a helpful waitress called Saira Sunaina Hussain. Every single food we ate was delicious right from the lamb chop starters all the way to our Berry Bae mocktails! We ordered lamb chops for starters which was so tender and delicious, one of the best I have ever ate, cooked to medium, just how I like it. We also ordered half a chicken extra for, this was so delicious, so soft and flavoursome, better than Nandos. My wife had butterfly chicken which was soft and so filling, spicy and it’s big, maybe good for two people. For sides we ordered Afrikana fries, Afrikana rice, halloumi fries and mac n cheese. The fries were nice, some was a little hard but the flavour from the sauce on them was really nice. My wife loved the Afrikana rice, one of the best rice we have ever had. Halloumi fries and mac n cheese were really really good, especially the mac! We also ordered Berry Bae mocktails which was really refreshing. Overall the food was 10/10 for sure. Decor of the place was really nice, dark setting, looked like a proper restaurant maybe should have dressed up a little more. 10/10. Ambience was very lively I think, maybe too many people for us and music was way too loud, not our thing to be honest. 8/10. Quite pricy to be honest but we expected that immediately when you saw the place and how busy it was. Was worth it though as the food was amazing. Spent £50 in the end. 8/10 The people in Birmingham are bunch of idiots we found, really found them so annoying as most were staring at us and not minding their own business. Plus guys outside revving their cars like they are gangsters. Really embarrassing vibe. No privacy. Just the people today annoyed us. The waitresses were fine, took our order correctly even when it was so busy. they were good in dealing with our requests. Giving a low score for annoying customers around us when we was eating and clowns outside on the...
Read more1st time experience for Couple, never tried any of the restaurants up this end of Ladypool Road - only because of the silly riff raff of the drug fueled youth that hang about here.
Can I say, this restaurant is in the wrong location - but if it works for the owners, then great.
From the moment of walking in on a Thursday night, it was quiet, suoerb ambient setting and I was impressed by Tash's acknowledgement of turning down the music, he had no issue and kindly obliged without fuss.
From first impressions, is it safe to say it has a family based environment from customers, which I liked, no shouting from customers (this is a put off for me personally depending on what type of eating out your intentions are)
Both Tash and Summaya gave excellent customer service, extremely polite and willing at all moments of our 1st time experience.
Food was delicious and piping hot 10/10, will we come back yes, most certainly.
I would be curious if they can get food and customer service quality during peak periods as on our visit it was not busy (but we had no complaints), we just wanted an evening out when the food would hit the spot and it did.
Established was clean - I was impressed with the table space for 2 people to dine in, with the addition of large spacious chairs - it was a comfortable seating during eating. Relaxed atmosphere.
This place is great for family get togethers, ok parking would be issue for some who struggle to walk long distance, but it would be worth it, and if you can put up with the no-good youth that loiter the streets, then this is a place to visit.
Look forward to returning to this place in the...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Afrikana in Birmingham, and it was a truly memorable experience. From the moment I walked in, the ambiance set the tone for an exceptional evening. The decor is modern yet warm, with vibrant African-inspired artwork and a cozy, welcoming atmosphere.
The menu is a delightful fusion of African flavors with a contemporary twist. I started with the peri-peri chicken wings, which were perfectly spiced and juicy. For the main course, I opted for the jollof rice with grilled lamb, and it was nothing short of spectacular. The lamb was tender and flavorful, while the jollof rice had the perfect balance of spices, delivering a rich and authentic taste.
What really stood out was the attention to detail and the quality of the ingredients. Every dish felt carefully crafted and bursting with flavor. The portion sizes were generous, ensuring you leave fully satisfied.
The service was another highlight of the evening. The staff were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu, providing excellent recommendations and ensuring that every aspect of the dining experience was enjoyable.
I highly recommend Afrikana to anyone in Birmingham looking for a unique and flavourful dining experience. I'll definitely be...
