Bedders used to be such a special place but unfortunately under the new ownership it's now just another local chippy. The aesthetics are still the same i.e a bowl of onions and bread n butter with a cuppa tea however the food is now bang average. The chips are soggy and quite greasy and the fish and batter just taste like any other chippy. The lovely friendly staff that new all the locals names have been replaced with younger staff who have no interest other than taking your money (cash only now) Also of note which is no fault of bedders is how run down the area is outside now. The area is full of litter and unsavory characters hanging around the phone box who are just basically drug addicts on the rob. During my 1st visit under the new ownership I wasn't comfortable sitting inside as I thought my car was going to get targeted as I was stared down as I entered. The 2nd time I decided to eat in my car and was approached by a young girl asking for money who looked like she was high on drugs this made me uncomfortable so I just left the area. Unfortunately with the food and premises now substandard I've paid my last visit to Bedders which is a crying shame as it was once the envy of every chip shop in the West...
Read moreBeen going here since I was in nappies having fond memories of John and Martin as a kid being given a fresh hot chip on a stick whilst waiting John knew it kept me occupied whilst I was in the queue blowing the bloody chip as it was always fresh from the fryer when handed to me I love they've kept the Bedder tradition!! The Same recipes etc, the sausages have changed and are bigger than used to be but just as nice with Onions of course!! They still serve on the clear glass plates with a cup of tea as when John owned with the same silverware and traditional knives as per the 80's and I absolutely Love that Keep up the tradition, Still the best TRADITIONAL fish and chip shop in the Midlands in my and my friends/family opinion and fair prices considering the great quality and tasting food!! We spent £75 that was for 3 adults and 3 children over 6yrs of age with several extra teas, drinks and sides including sauces, all were Fish and chip meals and a total of 6 battered sausages too 😁 (Well.... it is Bedders eh) We travel MILES to Bedders the food is that good!!, Keep with the tradition and Name, Fantastic place...
Read moreI finally got to eat at the well renowned Bedders chip shop for the first time and decided to eat in. I arrived around 12:15pm today (Friday 17th September 2021) first of all the staff are super friendly and made me feel so welcomed and my service was super quick considering being lunch time.
I decided to just have Fish and Chips as I wanted to not have anything else that may take the taste away from or add to the main player which the Fish and Chips.
So what did I think about the Fish and Chips? I absolutely enjoyed them and to me it had a reminiscent taste of how it used to be from growing up in the 1980’s so a very traditional light and crispy battered fish and well cooked chips and nothing like how modern kebab house chippy’s are like these days.
Brilliant service and a very clean seating area which had a member of staff clearing tables as soon as patrons left the table which was nice to see. Also I was asked a couple times how was my food and i appreciate the due care and attention. I will be definitely...
