Firstly, I must state in fairness that we have been to Pasta di Piazza on 2 previous occasions with friends, and the food each time has been excellent. Once again the food was very good, but unfortunately staffing attitude, diligence and training severely let down this experience.
My father sadly suffers from a severe gluton and lactose intolerance, so we phoned ahead to check they could accommodate this. We were told they could.
My father then said he was gluton/lactose intolerant directly to all 3 members of our waiting staff individually during the meal. Neither of the 2 female waiter staff members seemed to understand what this meant and had to keep getting a floor manager to check ingredients. Maybe a language barrier, but they didn't seem to know what was in their dishes and had no understanding of allergens.
On the dessert course my father asked if a certain dish was gluton free and lactose free. The waitress was not sure, so again went away to check with a supervisor. The supervisor explained the ingredients didn't include lactose/gluton
However, everyone has already finished their desserts by the time my father's dessert finally arrived. When it did, it had a biscuit sticking out of it, despite my dad making clear he was allergic to gluton all night.
The supervisor said they would make it again, but his dessert would take another 15 minutes. Bear in mind, the other desserts on our table had been ice cream-based, so were all finished by now.
My dad said he would wait, but wouldn't be happy to pay for the mistake. The supervisor's reaction to this was "why?" as opposed to apologising or checking with the manager to accommodate the request. My dad explained it was a reasonable request after the mistake. We had ordered 3 courses and 3 bottles of wine by this point, so it was hardly a big financial hit for the restaurant to save face. The supervisor then said he would get the manager.
The manager walked over, but as opposed to trying to chat to the table or fix the problem, he just looked at our table with his headphones in and walked off again. The replacement dessert took another 10-15 minutes
When the bill arrived the dish in question was taken off, but the blame was passed from the supervisor to the kitchen. We explained that we told the floor staff about allergens, and had asked specifically about this dessert before ordering it. It's the floor staff's responsibility to communicate information to the kitchen. We were told "the kitchen forgot" in response.
A half-hearted apology was offered - only when we asked for one - with the supervisor's arms crossed. He was cold and combative, wanting to argue and pass the buck than to offer a true apology
We asked for manager again, but now he had gone home. He knew of the issue and had simply left.
FYI: Allergens are serious! Unfortunately my dad suffers incredible discomfort from any amount of gluton, and having too much can mean a hospital visit. It's not a lifestyle choice; it's an unfortunate physical burden, but one that restaurants are required to train their staff on.
Please train your staff fully on allergens before they take orders, and teach some...
Read moreVery disappointed with the service. From the minute we got to the door, it was clear that they had over booked as we were waiting in a queue outside in the entrance to be booked in. Whilst moving down the queue, we chatted to a table who said they were waiting to be moved as the door was constantly being opened due to how busy it was & it was cold so they had complained. The people on this table were then moved & we were then allocated to their table, which I refused after knowing why they were moving! My parents are in their 70s with health issues & I was not putting them in the cold just because our table got allocated to those who complained. We were then told we had to wait for a table, yet the people behind got allocated to a table whilst we had to wait!?? 25 minutes from arriving, we were finally shown to a table, but it was a put together! One round & one square. We had no choice but to sit there as there was no other availability with how packed the restaurant was. We had to ask to be served for drinks & ask where the starters were, after asking they appeared within 30 seconds so it was obvious they'd been sitting waiting for someone to bring them to us. Main & dessert service was fine. There was no Happy Mothers Day or any personal touches to mark the day, where other restaurants I've been to definitely make an effort! The issue here was that they had crammed too many people in & could not cope. They completely lost the personal touch. From the lady checking us in who seemed stressed as there was a line of customers waiting for tables to the waiters/waitresses were run off their feet. It was a terrible customer experience from the minute we arrived for what should have been a nice day. I booked this in January on recommendation & safe to say we won't be visiting again. The only saving grace was the food, so compliments to the chefs because the...
Read moreI had arrived into Birmingham on the 25th Jan as I had an interview. My interview started at 1pm and it was 11:20am. I decided to try and find somewhere for lunch. After driving past Pasta Di Piazza whilst looking to park, I thought I would go back and take a closer look. The restaurant looked warm, welcoming and clean from the outside. On looking at the menu I found a variety of yummy dishes I would eat so I entered the restaurant. Unbeknown to me, the restaurant was still closed and wouldn't be open for lunch until 12pm. It must have been a mistake that the door was left open. We where greeted by a female waitress who looked very surprised to see us. She advised us that the restaurant wouldn't be open for a while, I proceeded to as her if she knew of anywhere close by that we would be able to grab something to eat? A gentleman then came from the back asking if we where ok. I explained that I was only in the city for an interview and was looking for somewhere close by to grab some lunch as I needed to be at the office by 1pm. He took no hesitation at all and grabbed a menu and sat us down in a beautiful window seat and took our drinks order. We where then served our bread, whilst we waited for our lunch. Our beautiful lunch was served just before 12pm, meaning I managed to enjoy lunch and get to my interview on time. Thank you so much for your kindness and opening up for us early. Your restaurant is beautiful, and your food was sensational. I got the job, so I hope to be able to come back and eat...
