Genuinely one of the best meals we have had in a while. We aren't immediately local to Sutton so hadn't seen it before, but we stumbled across this place on a fairly lengthy evening walk, and decided to pop in.
I absolutely adore dal makhani (the one made with black urad bean, not the more common tarka dal) but I've really struggled to find places in the Midlands that serve it, so I was really pleased to see it on the menu. I paired it with a couple of beautifully crispy parathas plus a paneer wrap side dish, and it was superb!! Becky, my fiancee, ordered a paneer tikka dish with a tarka dal side, and she was equally impressed with her choice.
In terms of the restaurant, I thought it was really tastefully decorated. Comfy seats, nice tables, nice lighting. And the staff were brill too. We were served by Naz, and she was friendly, helpful and attentive throughout our visit, it was a real pleasure meeting her and chatting to her.
I would thoroughly recommend it if you enjoy the experience of eating Indian food, but fancy something a bit different to the usual Anglicised selection of curries, rice and bread. The menu was large and varied, but more importantly it felt more like an authentic Indian dining experience with something for everyone.
We will definitely be back. I could eat their black dal every day for the next month and not get bored, it genuinely was that good. Please give it a try, you won't be disappointed...
Read moreDecided to try out Tikka Nation. Overall the experience was positive, liked the interior settings and deco, though finding a parking space was a challenge due to all the nearby restaurants/ bars being busy. We were the only people dining in the restaurant at that point and were well looked after. The selection of food was very good, from quick bites to something more heavier. We dined in and had a two/ three course meal, mixture of bites/starters and main. Loved the samosa chaat, the chicken tikka with Nan were okay, nothing special but decent. Unfortunately the lamb tikka was very disappointing, did not taste freshly made and we came to the conclusion that they were frozen lamb tikka that had been defrosted and warmed up, plus the petit size gave it away. It didn’t look fresh as a lamb tikka should that had just been taken off the skewer from an open flame. Masala fries were superb. The service was attentive, especially as this was the waitress second day, she was friendly and engaging, even though she got the order wrong and also forgot to bring out the masala fries until we asked for it towards the end of our meal. As I said overall good, but the lamb tikka lost stars and credibility. I asked the other worker whether the lamb was frozen and she said she didn’t know, well you would expect her to know if it was was fresh as she brought out all the food. Prices are reasonable, spent close to £60 for three...
Read moreWe were staying at the Belfry Spa & Resort and fancied some decent Indian food. Not knowing the area of Sutton Coldfield well, I placed my trust in Google and they brought me to Tikka Nation, Sutton Coldfield. If proof were needed that AI does work, here it is! The whole journey at Tikka Nation was perfect. We had very attentive and professional servers in Naz & Simran who made us feel very welcome. The food was out of this world good! My main course was finished in approximately 5 minutes, it was that good. All of our dishes were cooked to perfection and they tasted just as they would in India. I say this with some confidence as I have been fortunate enough to visit India on several occasions. In summary, if you want really good food and excellent service, you have to visit Naz & Simran at Tikka Nation, Sutton Coldfield. I promise that you will not be disappointed 🙂 I almost forgot, "Happy Birthday Simran for this...
