Ok, let’s be very honest here! There are not many Turkish restaurants around, so there is very little references we can make. The closest to Turkish cuisine is some good doner kebab places around Poulton-le-Fylde (Cyprus Kebab, being one of them) Having eaten Turkish food in a few mediocre ( one in Lytham and in Edinburgh) to excellent (Sultan in Guangzhou, China) I can definitely say that Agora is one of the nicer ones around this area. The menu is small and adequate, unlike some places with over 300 dishes.. ugh! We were here for NYE and it definitely deserved a review. The humus was right consistency, the prawns starter was an excellent choice for hot starters. The pita bread was disappointing, I was looking forward to lavas or yufka. The pita is a beautiful bread but wait till you taste your humus with a hot off the oven lavas. It’s heavenly. The mixed grill platter was tender, right amount of seasoning and cooked to perfection. The lamb stew had a beautiful tomato base and absolutely delicious with the plain rice. It reminds you of the rural simplicity and the reasons why this Turkish stew is borrowed in worldwide cuisines. The ambiance is great, the bar has a small collection but suitably stocked to accompany the menu. Overall it is a great addition to the Poulton’s growing gastronomic palate. The photos don’t do the plates any justice, in my defence: it was NYE and I had a few too many cocktails to focus on the lenses. I must add that the service...

We sampled the following: 》Agora Special | Chickpeas with parsley, butter, tomato and a hint of chilli 》Sucuk Izgara | Charcoal grilled spicy Turkish sausage served with salad leaves 》Humus | Puréed chickpeas with sesame seed paste, olive oil, lemon juice and a hint of garlic served with pide bread 》Ali Nazik Lamb | Famous Turkish dish of charcoal grilled aubergine, peppers, tomato, onion, parsley, garlic and yoghurt topped with cubes of lamb saute 》Adana Iskender Kebab | Tender minced lamb on a bed of pide bread covered with a special tomato sauce and cooling yoghurt 》Baklava served with vanilla ice cream
Where do I even start? The delectable meals, relaxed ambiance and attentive service were quite impressive.
The scrumptious meze/starters were fresh while the perfectly cooked mains were seasoned well and packed with flavour. The lamb was so tender and you could taste the quality of the ingredients used in all of the dishes. The baklava was an ideal treat to end our lovely meal on a high (sweet) note.
Everything was prepared with utmost attention, the balanced flavours and textures complimented each other. They offer a wide array of dishes so there's certainly something that would entice anyone's appetite. Already looking forward to...
Read moreOver priced and totally underwhelmed. Visited last nighy. 3 starters for £16.50. Humus was tasteless. Lahmacun was poor, small and nothing like the real deal in turkey..was also cold. The spicy sausage was stone cold in the middle so was returned (less the 2 pieces we had tried which the manager left on the plate slate) he returned 5 mins later with the same reheated sausages saying I don't know what happened there, they are done on a griddle!. I chose chicken iskender kebab for main meal, again £16.50. I ashed the waitress if it was a kebab and she said no its separate chicken on a sizzle plate and the bread comes underneath. It comes with our special spicy tomato sause and a cooling yoghert so I said ok. Big mistake. Plate full of walm chicken (no sizzle) covered in a tomato sause, no spice and no bread! Oh and a tastles white dollop of yoghert?. Spoke to the manager who just said waitress had told me what it was and he just walked away. No apology of offer to change anything. Hubbys mixed grill meal was alsu underwhelming for 21.50. Not everything that was advertised on the menu was on the plate. Needlless to say we will not...
