Our first visit to Chaskah; based on recommendation of a friend. We had been warned - dont expect anything too modern, just the basics.
That's certainly what was delivered and the owner was very eager and proud of his menu. We had to try the mixed sizzler starter to share. kebabs were great, lamb chops superb, chicken tikka slightly dry, and fish a little odd (nice coating and spicy, but fish was not a nice consistency).
Main dishes of Jalfrezi and Karahi - Chicken and garlic naans. Jalfrezi feature was that it was cooked with egg? Interesting and tasty. Naan breads were ok, but not our preferred style of light fluffy and crispy. More heavy and dense and a little underdone for my liking - but not bad, it did the job.
Owner had run out of serviettes which was very odd; but we muddled through with the blue roll on offer. Soft drinks were nicely chilled and maybe next time we will take some alcohol in, as the owner suggested and also directed us to a nearby off-license on the night.
Well worth a visit and my partner and i chatted about the experience the next day - and wanted to offer this constructive feedback.
We will maybe sample more lamb dishes or veggie options next time. Prices were OK, maybe a little high in some areas. Naan breads were £3, but pilau rice was £5.95? Slightly odd that one - we stayed on breads as a result.
Place was very quiet for a Friday night; but table space very limited - perhaps worth booking due to proximity to Alhambra....
Read moreDecided to give em a go... Don't be put off by the facade or interior, it's functional. We went for the food!!
We were given a warm greeting and seated.
The owner was very helpful, caring and recommended dishes.
Portions are very generous and prices are low for the quality....so excellent value for sure.
The sheek kebabs were fresh, tasty with a good hit of chilli and garlic. Some of the best i've eaten in years. I ordered a portion to take home for tomorrow! ( Can confirm they were tasty warmed, the next day !)
The lamb shoulder karai was perfectly cooked, with a rich sauce. The quality of meat and its freshness shone through.
The star of the show for us, was the butter chicken ! Creamy, rich with a good amount of spice. Chicken was moist and you could tell it was fresh. This is the kinda place, that the owners have put maximum thought into quality and service. Do not expect luxurious interiors, nor moan about it in any future reviews, you cant say you haven't been warned. Its based on the lower ground floor, so if it's winter, make sure you've a jumper on. Park on one of the side streets by the college or University and walk down, its a 5 mins walk. Access is available right to the door of the Cafe, so you can drop your family/mates off and go park. There are 8 ish steps down to the restaurant and steps up to the toilets. To the owners, I will be back and wish you...
Read moreWent there yesterday. Ordered papri chat, chilli paneer, chicken karahi, plain naan, garlic naan, and tandoori roti.
First, atmosphere was contrary to my expectation. Not a good dine-in. Very poor toilets, below average dine-in space.
Papri chaat was a average taste. Presentation could be better.
Chilli paneer in starter is supposed to be a dry dish. But, here it was indeed in gravy. Again very poor starter dish item.
Tandoori roti came in last of the order and still felt like uncooked. Tandoori roti is supposed to be well cooked and crisp.
Karahi is mentioned as Pakistani style but indeed it wasn’t.
And garlic naan was missing garlic.
Plain naan was nice and soft.
Well, server asked about quality of food but I was so disappointed. I just wanted to leave the place without saying a thing.
Three hours later I had food poisoning and the severe stomach ache lasted for several hours. I had 3-4 vomiting bouts.
I went there looking at 75 5* ratings. But it was unfairly rated.
Never again going there. Never disappointed with a restaurant this much in my recent memory.
Lots and lots of things to improve at.
The server, and owner have a great friendly attitude. I expect this review will be a check for future improvement.
Consider it a...
