Visited here on Sunday for our 2nd wedding anniversary..... it was amazing! Both myself and my hubby are foodies and wanted a proper Sunday roast while in the area.... we had initially tried to book a table at the Hawthorn (which was fully booked).... however, this place did not disappoint! The lady who served us was lovely (sorry didn't catch your name!) - she's Scottish (like us). She gave us complementary prosecco when she found out it was our anniversary (thank you!). Our dog was treated great too and provided with water. My hubby had chicken tenders to start and I had the bruschetta (best I have had in a long time!). My hubby had the roast trio and I had the roast beef (yum!). Meat was tender, yorkshire pudding was nice, roast potatoes were tasty and gravy was plentiful and the veg still had a bit of crunch (which was nice.... as a lot if places boil all the goodness out of their veg). We usually only manage 2 courses when we go out to eat, however.... we managed 3 courses on Sunday!... my hubby had a sundae and I had the tiramisu. We are a bit of connoisseurs when it comes to tiramisu and make our own at home.... we both agreed the tiramisu here is lovely! I am also about to book another visit here before we go back home.... and will also be sure to come back again on our next visit! Keep up the great work... would give more than 5/5 if we could! Xxx

My mum and I are vegan so we checked the menu on the restaurant website before arriving and saw there was fish and chips and a vegan burger, so we rang the restaurant and booked a table. When we arrived we were told that the pub had recently been taken over by a new owner and was running on a reduced menu, which meant there were only starters that we could eat or a salad (not exactly a family meal out) . The staff member serving us went back to the chef to ask what could be made vegan from the main menu. We ended up having chunky chips and BBQ cauliflower wings (from the starter menu) and flatbread with vegan sausage added and the Feel Good Salad (lots of roasted veggies) and split all of this between the two of us. For the inconvenience, the staff member gave us a discount off the whole meal. We were really pleased with how the situation was handled, particularly as they were very busy at the time. Also notable is how beautiful and cosy the restaurant and building were - lots of history and well worth a visit! Hopefully when they are up to full speed, they will have a good vegan menu.

Popped in mid afternoon for drinks in pub garden - can't really go wrong with half a lager shandy & a coke! Against my better judgement, mum talked me into booking table for this evening.... In & out in under an hour. Warm welcome, friendly (young) staff, quite pleasant interior. Was told many items not on tonight's menu - red flag! Mum ordered steak n ale pie. 2 pieces of meat, pitiful amount of mash accompanied by bland greens. I ordered the soy glazed baked salmon. Admittedly, salmon was quite tasty, however, was not expecting it to be laid across 'crushed' under seasoned new potatoes which were piled on top of soggy, bland courgettes with 2 measly baby corn & where were my stir fry green beans & mixed peppers? Added lots of s&p before asking for more of the glaze in an effort to enhance this meal. Staff were apologetic & pie was taken off the bill. Disappointed as changed original plans to support local business (whilst staying in Haworth.)

On the 3rd Jan 2024 we stopped at Haworth Old Hall for lunch because we were starving, and it was the first place we saw.

The food was… creative. My partner’s chicken curry tasted suspiciously like a microwave meal, and the chicken and mushroom pie my nephew and I ordered had a soggy crust and clumpy filling. The mashed potatoes and gravy were lumpy (for texture, perhaps?)

The waitresses were really lovely throughout, could not fault one bit of their customer service. They did ask us if we enjoyed our meals, even though we did not - we are always too polite to say the truth.

Later, at 6 PM, we thought we’d give the place another shot with drinks. The bartender, who might have had a few himself, aggressively demanded ID from my 29-year-old partner, shouting “No ID, no alcohol!” when we asked for a shandy for my 16-year-old nephew lol, he sure had a lot of energy to spare on sober polite customers.

Fair enough, rules are rules. But when we let the nephew taste a sip of my Baileys and Tia Maria, the bartender stormed over and shouted, “We will have to throw you out if any underage drinking is happening here!” A calm and reasonable response, of course.

Threatening to throw us out was likely an overreaction. While he was correct to prevent the 16-year-old from consuming alcohol, the manner of enforcement seemed wildly disproportionate given it was just a taste of my drink and we spoke to every member of staff with utmost respect and dignity the entire time, including the said possibly intoxicated bartender man.

Reasonable Handling Would Have Involved:

Politely explaining the legal restrictions Describing the curious 16 year old what it tastes like, to humour him and to not embarrass his adult companions Providing a non-alcoholic alternative

Why the Threat Was Unnecessary: A single sip of Baileys is not a serious legal violation, reasonably as it is not worth the fine we were very OBVIOUSLY not looking for trouble The possibly intoxicated bartender should maybe undergo some training on how to deal with polite customers politely, tactful handling would have actually impressed us (we understand that energy is perhaps necessary on drunk wild customers) man was about to explode with temper issues Threatening immediate removal creates an unnecessarily hostile environment, enforcement should be professional and proportionate. Most reputable establishments would handle such a situation with more discretion and communication

We felt watched the next 10 mins, what to say to such lovely customer service? A whopping two out of five star experience!

Haworth Old Hall is perfect if you’re craving average food and embarrassing drunk bartender. Otherwise,...

Good Morning,

It’s with the greatest regret I send this email.

Yesterday myself and partner had a very rare day date away from our very heavy family caring commitments so we decided to visit the area and called in for lunch.

We were greeted warmly and directed to a seat and promptly offered a menu and a drink by a friendly member of your team.

The menu offered sandwiches which were very calorie heavy but no other light bite was offered for lunch no salad. We didn’t feel we needed a 2 course meal so we picked 2 salads at no point on order did a reminder from the waitress come to take a starter or a dessert.

When the salad came we expected a nice well prepared watermelon and feta salad to my amazement as the chef in my household I was surprised it took about 4 mins to arrive on our table after order.I was astonished how bland and uninteresting it was ,brown sliced lettuce sparsely sprinkled with pumpkin seeds and a few small pieces of watermelon and feta. For a salad it was hard to eat so much lettuce.

After eating we both felt ready to move on especially because the table next to us were happily enjoying a different experience as they were eating hot meals. We requested the bill at no point were we prompted for dessert. The bill arrived and to our shock we were charged almost £31.00 pound for two poor salads.£38.00 in total we were charged.

My partner made his way to leave in shock.I went to pay,my disappointment was raised,I was told “didn’t I read the menu” and was not offered any understanding at this point. My upset just wanted to get me out of what was a highly overpriced poor afternoon bite to eat at your establishment, the pub had not many customers.I have not put a review on Facebook as I said I would but I will put a star rating for customers support and the poor food.

Maybe a couple more quality light bites should be added even a happy salad and a polite remind you do not have flexibility on the menu. We left your pub and enjoyed coffee and cake up the hill in a lovely cafe.

This is not a normal action for me writing complaints but my day was slightly spoilt on...

Unfortunately we are unable to recommend this establishment due to the Manner & attitude of the staff. We had a pub grub meal, chicken & mushroom pie, fish & chips with wine. Upon paying for the meal £55.50 the waitress advised that we select the relevant option on the card machine, which was to select tips or No tip, I selected No tip, however the card machine proceeded to charge a further 20% £11:10 equating to £66.60 . I raised concerns to the waitress that I had selected no tip, she raised this with a male/ manager. He advised that the overpayment could Not be refunded to my card for 10 days!!! The male was extremely rude & dismissive towards us and made us feel very uncomfortable. His behaviour was a direct reflection of him & Marstons and not of ourselves! We will be making a formal complaint to Marstons. Your response below does not reflect what actually happened, just to confirm, we were asked if everything was ok with our meal, we said yes(don’t recall calling it great) I selected the no tip on the card machine however was charged a further £11.10, when ‘I’ highlighted the overpayment there was no apology, no customer service skills applied and it was quite clear that the incident was an inconvenience to you & staff members! Unfortunately I cannot award any higher than a one star due our experience on the day and upon reading your response only confirms my review! we were not rude to any of the staff members, the male/manager’s manner & attitude was rude & dismissive to ourselves. Your response to my review is factually incorrect and only confirms that your conduct towards ourselves as paying customers on that day is a direct reflection on...
