A pie is a pie right? That's what you might think until you've tried one of the freshly baked pies from Hunters Of Haworth.
The first time I went I had a steak and ale pie that was head and shoulders above any other pie you've ever tasted. The fillings are the most meaty and generous you will ever see, and the taste really shows that the owner has worked in some of the finest kitchens as a top chef in his time.
The cafe itself is a cutie, and really nicely done with plenty of space upstairs to eat (in a lovely little art space with amazing artwork on the walls)
Staff are obviously trained to look after the customers and visitors in the best way possible so you'll always get a smile and a warm welcome as you try and decide which pie to go for!
Yesterday I had the chilli beef and quite honestly it was just perfection.
The meat was delicious and I don't know what secret ingredients went into this one but my goodness I have to have another as soon as possible.
Pastry is absolutely amazing - my favourite kind, and the pie top crust was a delicious buttery flaky one - lovely!
Honestly even if you're not even in Haworth it's worth the trip to taste the pies freshly baked and hot out of the oven, and you can even buy some uncooked ones to take home and bake yourself in your own oven too.
It's a must visit cafe (the coffee...
Read moreMy friend and I visited on a Sunday afternoon in July. The seating area upstairs is lovely - well decorated, cosy, and charming. The staff are friendly and helpful, but service generally is chaotic. My friend's and my tea/coffee were brought promptly, but the sandwich and pieces of cake were so much later that we'd finished our drinks. In fact, they'd completely forgotten my cake! In retrospect, I wished they had - it was a meagre slice and dried out around the edges. My friend's sponge had the texture of poundcake (although she said the sandwich, on lovely doorstop bread, was nice). It's a pleasant place to sit and chat and I'd like to think they'll get the hang of the machine and improve their service, but...
Read moreA really disappointing experience as someone with food allergies. I chose Hunters as they had jacket potatoes on the menu which I hoped would be suitable for my allergies. Ahead of ordering I asked about my allergies and was told they were not comfortable and were fearful of serving me. I understand that it is better to have been honest about their shortcomings like this rather than muddle through and potentially make mistakes but it is disappointing and hurtful that they were so poorly prepared in their cross-contamination procedures and their allegen training. I would warn against anyone with allergies...
