We were thrilled to find a restaurant an hour away from us that offered tartiflette, a dish we adore and know well as French natives. Seeing “original Reblochon” listed as the cheese used, we didn’t hesitate to make the trip. But sadly, it turned out to be a major letdown.
Upon ordering tartiflette for both myself and my wife, we noticed the staff heading to the kitchen with a Camembert. We assumed they were for another order. To our dismay, they weren’t. What we received was far from the authentic tartiflette we’d hoped for. Instead, it was a poor imitation, loaded with Camembert instead of Reblochon, and so overwhelmingly salty that it was nearly inedible.
When we expressed the remark about the cheese used to the waitress, we were ignored – no follow-up, no apology. Yet when the bill arrived, we were certainly charged for two tartiflettes, not some strange baked Camembert.
In short, this place offers pseudo-French cuisine at best, failing to respect the authentic recipe. If you’re looking for genuine French dishes, particularly if you know and love tartiflette, this is not the place for you. Highly disappointing and not recommended.
2 stars is because the chips and sausage of my son were actually very good, maybe would be better to stick to...
Read moreWe came here on a Monday evening to beat the start of the darker nights drawing in and enjoyed a fabulous 2 course meal each. It was nice to see the restaurant busy on a Monday evening with only 2 tables free.
I chose a starter of figs and ricotta with pistachio and tomatoes on toast (so rich and flavoursome with plenty of pistachio creme) followed by, my favourite, Moules frites. My husband had the steak frites followed by sticky toffee pudding. Delicious food, beautifully presented, flavoursome and well-seasoned! We enjoyed a cruzcampo on draught and a glass of sauvignon blanc with our meal.
As a pescetarian, it was great to see a menu full of different. The food was delicious, thank you to the chef! The service was faultless and the waitress (I think her name was Aimee) couldn't have done more for us.
We will definitely be returning with friends and family! It's great to have fresh, alternative cuisine on...
Read moreI'm reluctant to be too critical because the young couple there are giving it a go, trying to recreate a French bistro feel. The guy is very friendly and chatty and the room is interesting if a bit scruffy. The food, though, misses the mark. Plenty of garlic but no finesse. The menu is simple based on dishes that can be made in advance. We had a terrine that had plenty of substance but was smothered in vinegary pickles. The beef bourguinon should have been falling apart but instead consisted of tough blocks of beef. The mousse solid not airy. We shared a nice Cote de Rhone so the evening went well. I hope they succeed but...
